Yes! The RCC a cough up huge amounts of $$$$$$$$$$ from all the businesses and property they own across the US. Oh..........the Mormon church too, who also owns Nestle Co. plus some other big businesses and properties across our nation can cough it up too. Just with these 3 churches, our country's debt just got reduced if they paid taxes.

The law says that the gay couple can indeed command the services of the baker, no matter what the baker has to say about it.
What did I get wrong here?
You got it all backwards.

The business does not get to refuse service to _any_ protected group on the basis of that trait.

The customer can't make the business do thus and such. They can sue the business for civil damages.

That's the law.

And you'd know that's the law too if some pagan or jewish or episcopalian or muslim owned business starting refusing to help veterans or fundie xstains of the disabled. Or if some black owned business refused to wait on customers it considered to be white.

That's why the bigot legislators comments are so revealing: He said "gays" and "african americans." He did not say "on the basis of race or of sexual orientation."

I know all of this is way, way over your tee baggrz head. You know, since you believe the US is a Christian nation, etc.

A article on the Mormon church's questionable holdings.

Compliments of:http://www.businessweek.com /articles/2012-07-10/how-the-m ormons-make-money

"It’s perhaps unsurprising that Mormonism, an indigenous American religion, would also adopt the country’s secular faith in money. What is remarkable is how varied the church’s business interests are and that so little is known about its financial interests. Although a former Mormon bishop is about to receive the Republican Party’s presidential nomination, and despite a recent public-relations campaign aimed at combating the perception that it is “secretive,” the LDS Church remains tight-lipped about its holdings. It offers little financial transparency even to its members, who are required to tithe 10 percent of their income to gain access to Mormon temples.

The Mormon Church is hardly the only religious institution to be less than forthcoming about its wealth; the Catholic Church has been equally opaque throughout history. On the other hand, says historian D. Michael Quinn, who is working on a book about the LDS Church’s finances and businesses,“The Mormon Church is very different than any other church.… Traditional Christianity and Judaism make a clear distinction between what is spiritual and what is temporal, while Mormon theology specifically denies that there is such a distinction.” To Latter-day Saints, opening megamalls, operating a billion-dollar media and insurance conglomerate, and running a Polynesian theme park are all part of doing God’s work. Says Quinn:“In the Mormon [leadership’s] worldview, it’s as spiritual to give alms to the poor, as the old phrase goes in the Biblical sense, as it is to make a million dollars.”"

No, you aren't getting it.

The baker cannot refuse service to someone because they are gay. Period. You cannot discriminate against the person. Period.

The baker objects to being a peripheral particpant in an act (the wedding). The law here commands the baker to participate in something that she wishes not to, due to religious convictions.

Far different that an act against an individual.

As long as they are taking Blacks and gays tax dollars they pay to the government and they take government handouts, no they do not have a right to refuse service to anyone they please. They want a free enterprise, then go for it. Build your business from the ground up with 100% of your own monies. When that happens, then as a Black man I will 100% agree that you then have the right to refuse business to us and anyone else of your choice. Until then, you will serve whomever walks in whether you like it or not and you will greet every customer with a smile in good customer service also.

Tell me how getting married is a "protected characteristic" while you're telling me what I don't understand.
Thanks
I can try to straighten you out on that, you du mb pos.

Being married is not a protected characteristic [sic].

Being of a certain race, religion, ethnicity, veteran's status, disability, gender, etc., or being perceived to be, constitutes a protected group characteristic, depending on locale.

These customers were protected from refusal of service based on their perceived sexual orientation. That's why they've gotten or will get damages.

To take your witless rejoinder, you stupid filth, not just any customer can walk in and demand service because these laws only cover certain characteristics as a grounds for refusing service.

Your addled example is over broad. It does not relate to what the law says. You cretin. Go work out your sexual issues some other way than mixing all this up.

Actually you've been arguing for months that any business may do this.

And you were wrong.

But you still are.

The net result regardless of your word game is that these customers were denied the same service any other customer would get. It's not the wedding the bigot objects to. It's the gender composition of the betrothed the stupid, soon-to-be-poorer business owner objected to.

Gender, sexual orientation - protected. His "right" to toss out people because of gender and sexual orientation - not protected.

Tough sht, fundie cretin.

It has nothing to do with government handouts.

It has to do with being a place of public accommodation open to the public.

They have the right to refuse service to people...but not just on the basis of perceived race or gender or sexual orientation (in that locale,) etc.

The customers are a same sex couple. The dumb business owner explicitly stated why he was refusing a service available to everyone else and which he had agreed previously to provide. Case closed.

No, you're right. There will always be a group of people who put their failures on others.

Someone who wants to start a business of their own needs on average $150,000. Most business owners do not have that amount of money that they've saved so they borrow (keyword here) that money from the government. Where does the government get that money from? From the people, the taxpayers. So yes it is a government handout if you are borrowing money from your neighbor. They have the right to refuse people when they are not using their gay neighbor's money. When they stop borrowing that money from the monies that Blacks put into the system who don't agree with their hatred to refuse to service to people they have a bias against, then they have the right to refuse to God if they want to. Until then, if you're borrowing my money, then you will serve me. Case closed.
