And they lost a ton of money by pushing a social agenda rather than concentrating on good business practices. Will this new change make a difference? Remains to be seen. I have talked with a number of people who are disgusted. It would probably take really drastic changes in merchandise and social attitudes to get them backj.,

Another stupid and predictable response. Penney's has had financial troubles for years. The idea that religious loonies caused their financial problems with a boycott (or that they spent lots of time on social issues and no time on marketing) is like suggesting throwing a pebble in the water in San Francisco is going to cause a tsunami in Japan.

Uh, ever been to highly successful Wal-mart?

All department stores are from the early 20th century and have not changed enough to keep up. The internet has killed more stores than anything. I usually get most of my clothes and shoes on line. so do many millions of other people.

Also, Penney's has competition with stores like Target and Wal-Mart and those that never were around when Penney's was flying high in the 1950's.

One company online that really affected brick and mortar clothing sales was L. L. Bean. Not the cheapest, but people know what they are getting. Unfortunately they are not up here in Canada.

True. I have a couple of L.L. Bean shirts and for about 20 years. They are showing ZERO signs of wear and tear and have been washed maybe a hundred times.

Yes, they have had financial problems for years, and they moved in exactly the wrong direction when they alienated their customer base (who were by and large middle class families and older people) by trying to woo the "fashionable" young and gays. You can call it a boycott if you want. I no longer shop there; I don't call it a boycott. For many reasons (merchandise choices, marketing techniques, and just general crappy attitude toward people like me from Penney's), I prefer to spend my dollars elsewhere. Will they ever get me back? I doubt it. Too many other choices out there who appreciate my business and aren't going to abandon me to kiss gay butt.

Jcp was on the top 10 of gay friendly businesses long before Ellen and Ron Johnson joined them.

Speaking of Levi's, I have worn ONLY Levi's the past 40 years, and I have the Levi's logo tattooed on my arm.

So gay bars shouldn't have Gay Pride Flags, or information on your legal rights, or inforomation on gay-friendly churches ?

And Christian bookstores shouldn't have things that promote the "Christian lifestyle" ?

And Planned Parenthood shouldn't be promoting abortion rights ?

You're dreamin.
