Louisville Archbishop Joseph E. from The Courier-Journal:

"While the Roman Catholic Church teaches that homosexual activity is sinful, Kurtz said the church also calls for treating people with dignity regardless of sexual orientation and that the Boy Scout policy calls for chastity among scouts and continues its ban on openly gay leaders."

This comes amid rumors of a "gay" cabal operating in the Vatican.

The Archbishop is correct and his statement is consistent with what's been put out by the National Catholic Scouting office.

"Gay cabal" is a bit sinister-sounding.

The Church certainly doesn't discourage gay people from attending Mass, so there's no reason to stop sponsoring the scout troops.

Not really "reported".

Pope used the term "gay lobby" and it got leaked.

That's all the reportage.

Kurtz's statement is entirely consistent with the Church's teaching on the pastoral care of homosexuals.

"Kurtz's superiors" have this to say RE: homosexuals

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition."

I believe that Pope Francis is setting the stage for some housecleaning.

Should they cease sponsorship so you can paint them with your typical broad brush?

2357 declares homosexual acts "intrinsically disordered" and presented by Sacred Scripture as "acts of grave depravity".

Although nothing justifies "unjust discrimination," homosexual acts are contrary to natural law and don't proceed from a "genuine affective complimentarity," so "under no circumstances can they be approved".

Then I pray he gets a food taster; when John Paul declared his intention for sweeping reforms, the "September Pope" was no more.
