These backward Countries, still mentally stuck in the Middle Ages, can't conceive of culture or Government that isn't riddled with theonomy. It shouldn't be surprising. They've NEVER known it.
Most Poles helped the Nazis because of just this culturally entrenched sort of sectarian religious prejudice.
Remember, people. Our ancestors FLED this sort of thing.
