The Myths of Gay Icon Matthew Shepard's Infamous Death Finally Exposed

Sep 25, 2013 Full story: Politik Ditto 111

Of course, conservatives like Ann Coulter and even Republican Congresswoman Virginia Foxx have long said publicly that Shepard's death had nothing to do with his lifestyle choice.

Matthew's death had nothing to do with the fact he was gay? That's not what the murderers have admitted. It's not what the murderers' girlfriends testified either.

The liberal media and gay activists concocted the entire story that this was a hate crime and he was killed just because he was a queer.
BS The courts already looked at all the evidence. Show some respect fucktard.

What "myth" is being exposed? Is Matthew Shepard still alive somewhere? Was that not his body left hanging on a fence?

Even if he had a sexual relationship with one of his murderers, has that killer ever admitted it? Why not? And why did the killer's girlfriend testify in court that Matthew was targeted because he was gay? At best, the killer "boyfriend" is so filled with homophobia and self-loathing that he can't admit the "truth". And his girlfriend perjured herself to back up his lies.

Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered. That's fact, not myth. This latest attempt to "blame the victim" is a sick and disingenuous way for the writer to try to capitalize on a vicious and tragic incident. That's the story here.

Amazing this old myth continues to be promoted as truth, even when the killers admits Matt was targeted and tortured to death because he was gay. The trial proved this beyond a shadow of doubt, and the killer still admits it. But denial runs strong, and many don't want to admit hate was the motivation for the torture murder.

Anti gay hate crimes continue here and around the world, and continue to be characterized by a higher lever of violence and rate of torture than other hate crimes. Attempts to blame the victim for his torture murder fail to change the facts. The murders admit he was targeted for robbery and tortured to death because he was gay.

Most robbers don't torture their victims to death. Even most hate crimes aren't this brutal and cruel.

The primary killer admits it was a hate crime.

It is true the killers of Matthew Shepard attempted to use the "Gay Panic" defense while also later trying to claim their motivation was not because he was gay. Yet both girlfriends testified Matt was targeted because he was gay: "During the trial, Chastity Pasley and Kristen Price, girlfriends of McKinney and Henderson, testified that Henderson and McKinney had both plotted beforehand to rob a gay man." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Shepard

"Now, long after the trial and conviction, McKinney admits Matt was targeted and killed for being gay:“The night I did it, I did have hatred for homosexuals,” McKinney is quoted as saying. He goes on, according to the script, to say that he still dislikes gays and that his perceptions about Shepard’s sex life bolstered his belief that the killing was justified.

McKinney and his accomplice, Russell Henderson, targeted Shepard at a bar in Laramie in part because they assumed he was gay, according to the script:

“Well, he was overly friendly. And he was obviously gay,” McKinney is quoted as saying.“That played a part ... his weakness. His frailty. And he was dressed nice. Looked like he had money

"What Tectonic found, and found most troubling, "is that so much of the town is rewriting the crime as not a hate crime," said Stephen Belber, a writer on both "Laramie Project" incarnations.

The irony: The primary killer now admits that it was.

"Matt Shepard needed killing," Aaron McKinney bluntly told Tectonic company member Greg Pierotti for the epilogue, which includes the first interviews with McKinney and Russell Henderson since 2004.

"As far as Matt is concerned, I don't have any remorse," McKinney said during nine hours of talks with Pierotti. "The night I did it, I did have hatred for homosexuals."

McKinney's initial motive was robbery. But he targeted Shepard, he said, because "he was obviously gay. That played a part. His weakness. His frailty."

McKinney now calls himself "the poster child for hate-crime murders."

The one guy said in an interview that he was always attracted to the criminal lifestyle and doesn't feel sorry for what he's done.

I love that the author has to tell us about the high journalistic standards that he employed.(Much like Regnerus touts the high standards his research employed.)

But if the excerpts posted in the article are indicative, Jiminez's high standards do not include basic clarity of style or correct grammar. It doesn't look promising.

Wow. You used the word "intellect." I'd be impressed if you actually knew its meaning. But if your understanding of the word "homophobia" is any indication, you likely have no idea.

Once AGAIN, you are woefully and completely WRONG. When are you going to have mommy sign you up for pre-school, as little ones like YOU shouldn't be on the computer unsupervised.

My wife and I have encountered homophobia, from not being seated/served in a restaurant in the town where I grew up, to having ROCKS thrown at us and being spat upon by so-called "Christians" at a local Pride parade to having our car defaced.

Get a clue, "shadow" or whatever name you pull out of the hat today. You're very tiresome, and your HOMOPHOBIA AND BIGOTRY are not wanted here.

I'm not convinced of much of anything by the article. Without having read the book, which seems to serve no purpose but to possibly make a little money, it looks like a collection of random hearsay and such highly reliable sources as an "anonymous letter." Looks like "the high journalistic standards" are comparable to the National Enquirer, World News Daily, or Fox.

Does this help?

"The gay panic defense[1] is a legal defense, usually against charges of assault or murder. A defendant using the gay panic defense claims that he or she acted in a state of violent temporary insanity because of a little-known psychiatric condition called homosexual panic.[2] This defense often fails, and has been ruled inadmissible in many jurisdictions[3] because of a complete lack of scientific research to support it.

In the gay panic defense, the defendant claims that they have been the object of homosexual romantic or sexual advances. The defendant finds the advances so offensive and frightening that it brings on a psychotic state characterized by unusual violence.

Guidance given to counsel by the Crown Prosecution Service of England and Wales states: "The fact that the victim made a sexual advance on the defendant does not, of itself, automatically provide the defendant with a defence of self-defence for the actions that they then take." In the UK it has been known for decades as the "Portsmouth defence"[4][5][6] or the "guardsman's defence"[7](the latter term was used in an episode of Rumpole of the Bailey made in 1980). In Australia, it is known as the homosexual advance defence (HAD).[8][9]

Also known as the "I hope the judge and jury share my anti-gay prejudice" defense.

Unfortunately, it has sometimes worked in the past, though it didn't work back then, and is now understood as irrational blaming of the victim.

As if there is any excuse for torturing someone to death.
