New York State Senator Hiram Monserrate, one of the Democrats who helped “defend traditional marriage” in the New York Senate last week by voting against a bill that would have made same-sex marriage legal in the Empire State, was sentenced to 250 hours of community service. 52 weeks of domestic abuse counseling and three years of probation, on an assault conviction stemming from a December 2008 incident where he “accidentally” slashed his girlfriends face while beating the crap out of her after he dragged her through the lobby of his Queens apartment building

Well, on the upside, he is "defending" marriage, he didn't marry her!

yes. The type that the anti-gay Christians think everyone should emulate, because at least they're not gay, and therefore part of god's natural plan. NOT. I hope she hits him with both barrels.

Misogyny always gets me going, because it makes me wonder how I'd react and defend the wonderful women in my life from these male-supremacy criminals.

A security video showed Monserrate dragging Ms. Giraldo through the lobby of his apartment building and statements that doctors at Long Island Jewish Medical Center made said Ms. Giraldo pretty much had the holy shit beat out of her. Justice Erlbaum said, however, that he could not ascertain beyond a reasonable doubt that what happened inside Monserrate’s apartment was an intentional attack.
So Judge Erlbaum ignores the physical injuries inflicted on Ms Giraldo because he can't determine what happened back in their apartment? Let's see: We have a video tape of Monserrate violently dragging Giraldo through the lobby, and she shows up at the hospital with substantial injuries. And there are no other suspects in the crime--which the judge isn't quite sure actually happened.

I think there's some sort of "professional courtesy" being exercised between the judge and the senator.

Well, if judges want to ignore what might have happened, you can hold events like this up to scrutiny and let the public decide.

Don't some people just loooove those public votes?

Hey, don't open your mouths and complain when someone like Monserrate or Tiger Woods is "crucified" by the media. They're not honoring much of anything, and we all know it. Some just don't want to admit it.

If a person can go against the AMA and APA and pronounce homosexuality an "illness" -- despite learned, professional medical opinion -- then every last person who posted in this thread has the right to believe Monserrate committed an act of domestic violence, no matter what the judge said, and is a hypocrite who doesn't deserve the office he holds.

And the ones in this thread have more evidence than those attempting to trump the AMA and the APA. Funny how life works that way.

Hey, at least he's a big ol' hetero, so he's OK in the eyes of God, according to our good friends on this link. I am sure they will be on here soon, praying for that fat necked little thug to marry his gal pal. She must be a real idiot, still wanting to marry him, by the way. Good lord, what a couple of goof balls.

ALAN: You do know where these 'male-supremacy criminals' get their ideas don't you?

GOD: "For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner (1 Tim. 2:12-14, NIV)."

ALAN: Doesn't that make you want to slap the nearest woman? NO, of course not, but a 'male-supremacy criminal' would have no problem putting two and two together and believing it is OK to do so.

GOD: "...and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee." (GEN. 3:16).

GOD: "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man;...." (1 Cor. 11:3).

GOD: "Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." (1 Cor. 11:9).

GOD: "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife.... Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husband in every thing." (Eph. 5:22-24).

ALAN: Christianity is the problem. These are the facts.

GOD: "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man;...." (1 Cor. 11:3).

ALAN: Ya know, this just makes me sick. I almost can't read it it is such an abomination. How any woman can defend the Bible is beyond me. It has to be mental illness.

Oh, absolutely. I have absolutely no doubt, from what I've observed in this lifetime, that if organizations like NOM want to get savage about their battle, the gay and pro-gay communities can outdo them in savagery every time.

But that sounds very much like traditional marriage from before the mid 80's, give or take.

Except there is only one wife in this case and she was not a child bride.

I don't agree. When was a NOM worker bashed on the street or tied to a fence to die? Or when were all NOM workers purposefully associated with child molestation or evil in the mainstream media or in houses of worship?

Right wingers can stoke and manipulate fear much better than the left. The education and one on one coming out needed to counteract that fear takes much longer.

But outing hypocrites is welcome along the way.

You might have misunderstood me. I see your point here.

I was specifically referring to NOM and its tactics and opposition to those tactics and lies directly.

NOM isn't physically leaving people to die or associating gay people with those things: They're actually far more clever than that. They're limiting their claims and making them very specific; they're fighting in the courts and in legislatures, through legal channels.

THAT'S what I am talking about. That's what has to be savagely opposed in the same channels and through the same dissemination of words and ideas. One thing I think should have happened and no one alive is paying the slightest attention is that in Maine, NOM should have been sued for libel, slander and/or defamation of character. They lied about the effects of gay marriage on school curricula despite declarations by state legislative figures that such things would not happen ... and took away marriage rights, damaging gay families and their children.

This girlfriend should get his balls in a civil case. Sue him for billions, then kill the son-of-a-bitch, and the government crooks whom he paid off for his slap on the hand sentence.

Why did they waist precious tax money sorely needed by Americans on this specimen? Another O.J. Simpson!

Religionists lie. Their entire belief system is based on lies so lying comes naturally to them. Expecting a religionist to tell the truth is like expecting a scorpion not to sting.
