Way to go Indonesia!!!

Rose, while a agree with you on the Conservatives who now make up the core of the Republican Party, or Trump Conservatives, I beg to differ on what is the mainstream of Conservatives. I, myself, am a Conservative, and have been all my adult life. However, that does not mean that I, and others like me, have closed minds. For instance, I was not automatically in favor of same-sex marriage, even though I had been in the gay rights fight for decades before it looked to be the main issue. After listening to all the arguments, pro and con, I deduced it was the right thing to do.

There is, and always have been, Conservatives who will listen to reason, and change their minds. However, if all we do is attack the entire group as one mindset, we will be unable to change those minds. On the other hand, some of the trolls on Topix tend to elicit that attitude, and I understand your retort. But I still disagree with it.

I never use the term "closed mind", because it seems to be code for "disagrees with me".
I was careful to say that Conservatives tend to have certain points of view.
While some Conservatives are in favor of gay rights, most seem to be against them, almost part of the definition. Look at the people here who want to put gay people in jail for...being gay.
What do you think defines a Conservative?

I think lumping all Conservatives in with the the ones on these threads is a bit of a jump. After all, they exemplify just a small portion of the Conservatives in the country. As to a specific definition of "Conservative", it is difficult to give a definition to that many people, and have it be fitting for each and every one. However, a Conservative is hesitant to embrace new ideas and new ways of living, and tends to not want to rock the boat. That is about as close as we can come without attaching many more adjectives. A true Conservative, in my view, listens to all the facts concerning a subject, and then comes to reasonable conclusion, even if it will require him/her to change their mind on the subject. Now, a right-wing Conservative is much more resistant to change, and on certain issues will not even consider any evidence which requires them to re-think their position. And, I'm sure there are many that float round between those two descriptions.

It seems to me, that if we divide life in to two arenas, the personal and the public, Conservatives want more government involvement in the personal arena, and Liberals want more in the public arena (including business regulations).

We can go on like this all day, most likely. I still believe you cannot lump all the people into two distinct groups. There are to many variations. The best we can do is look at it as a sliding scale. So I prefer to deal with any topic by trying to provide facts, and hope the person will accept or reject my argument in fairness. That is how I approached same-sex marriage, as well as all other issues. I asked for facts, received them, and made my decision, even though my first reaction to any such change is to dig in my heels, and not want to change it until it is proven to me as a good move.

I figured it was a matter of equal protection under the law, as promised under the 14th Amendment.

For those of us that agreed to TOS on a privately owned messaging board, censorship is deemed appropriate to the operation and service of Topix members. If TOS is not acceptable to anyone posting, perhaps another venue would meet his/her proxy posting needs.

Oh the irony. A proxy troll who creates retaliation threads, claims a woman has a penis, and whines about censorship, while supporting discrimination from businesses whines about honor. His alcohol fueled vision of Truntville is behind blurred.
