The right thing is creating an expensive lawsuit?

Why do gays always think lawsuit? Won't sell them flowers, sue them. Won't let them be boy scouts, sue them. Don't want father/daughter dances in RI public schools, sue them. Normal people don't do that.

Carrying a purse is a "lifestyle" ?!

What is a purse? A Bag for carrying stuff. Any rational reason why carrying stuff in a bag is only okay for girls? Nope, only irrational reasons. Any rational reason why carrying a bag should be considered perfectly acceptable for some students, and "perverse and deviant behavior" for others? Nope. Only irrational, idiotic, ignorant, hateful reasons... like the school's policy of suspending some students for doing what they allow half of them to do without any fuss.

Why is that a "purse" rather than a "Shan Bag" ?

I admit I had to look up shan bag. Kind of like the canvas bags I use for grocery shopping. When I was a kid (eons ago) we had something called school bags before backpacks were all the rage for students.

I don't remember the school having any specific rules about what they had to look like, or different ones for boys and girls. I vaguely remember having one that looked like a small suitcase with a sort of plaid or tartan design.

If my parents had given me a choice, and it was available, I might have chosen an animal print like zebra or leopard or cheetah.

Who cares? It's a BAG and there's no GOOD reason to suspend a kid for carrying a BAG while allowing the girls to do the same.
Anybody got a GOOD reason?
Didn't think so.

I saw this on the news last night. They said, according to school rules....ALL bags are to be left in lockers and NOT brought to the classroom.

When I was in jr. high school, in 1970, I don't remember book bags, but what was most common was a rubber band with a metal hook on one end and a metal eye on the other a. I don't remember what they were called. Thy were flat, about a half inch wide, and about 18" long I think. Anybody remember what they were called or even if they had a name ?

The uninspired teacher's or parent's reaction to any problem ... "NO!".

How does one win a lawsuit unless one is in the right?
