Then it was an experiment that failed. Otherwise, it would be something that was on-going since "time out of mind." It hasn't been; something ended it. It did not perpetuate, and it didn't spread. Epic fail.

You'd stop doing something too real quick if people were threatening to kill you for it.

No, the filthy disgusting clergy started throwing their weight around and all hell broke loose.

In the old days when about 2 kids out of 10 survived, it made sense to make sure no one used birth control or had abortions or was gay and did not have kids. Now, there are far too many people and the world is on the tipping point of over population. Time to slow down a bit. The clergy are still going on the supposition that it is about 1500 or so. It's not.

Let me see...

The Jews stopped having polygamy because the Romans who conquered them told them no more polygamy. The Romans- who had one of the best militaries in the world at the time, also conquered much of Europe; however, it was the shift to Christianity through the combination of coopting and conquest that put an end to same-sex marriage in Europe and the Americas.

Same-sex marriage did not fail and was not the reason for failure. It was a lot of other factors. One of those was compassion. Had King Brennon not felt compassion for the Romans and just wiped them out early in the Republic, none of this would have happened and Christianity would now be a localized religion- if it existed at all.

Personally, I'd like to go back in time and slap that guy silly, take over his army, and subjugate Rome.

The whole notion of "one-man-one-woman" is heavily rooted in the Patriarchal thinking. That also thinks that women are property, men who are weak are the equivalent of women, and any man who engages in sex with another man is a not-man and deserves to be destroyed. It cuts off men from their compassion, emotion, and understanding and largely destroys their brains making them think that war is good, hoarding everything is better, and that everyone is out to get what they have and the only way to get it is to pry it from their cold dead hands.
