The summer of 2013 has been a frightening one for LGBT people, bookended by horrific acts of violence against members of our community.

Bashers know gays are better built than they are , so they must gang-up to insure success . They' re cowards who only function in numbers or with firearms . They should be put away in a compound ; where they'll soon be attacking each other , be sure . The mentally sick shouldn't be fostered on a society under the pretense of a democratic attitude unless they're non-violent .

It is your RIGHT to bear a firearm to protect yourself and your loved ones.

I'm IN FAVOR of people availing themselves of their SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHT to bear a firearm (pistol, rifle, shotgun, semi-automatic rifle, machine gun, etc.).

When the founding fathers subscribed to the right to bear arms, the weapons were certainly very different than they are now.

Machine guns have no place in society .

You play military a bit to much without ever having actually having been in the military. These weapons are not toys.

Most who carry shouldn't carry, they consider these weapons toys or their actual friends .

Every day some idiot in Florida who has a license to carry is accidently shooting a neighbor or relative.

That is debatable .

Military type weapons do not belong on the "street".

Even in the military they are locked up in an arms room when you are stationed state side .

You still have a right to own one. All you need is the proper license. And teh license is only denied if you have a criminal record.

It's also perfectly legal to own "military weapons" such as automatic rifles, semi-automatic rifles, cannons, howitzers, tanks, and other assorted weapons that are generally thought of as "military" weapons.

NOBODY is in favor of INSANE people, such as Lanza, owning firearms, or other deadly weapons.

But I don't recall any "gun control legislation" as a result of that tragedy.

It's part of the price we pay for a free society.

I'm pretty sure the shooter didn't own a gun. He was insane.
There will always be guns. Why should criminals be the only people with one.

He legally owned several guns.

And as tragic as those mass murders were, there was not enough public support for any new "gun control" laws.

I think that should be a personal choice. Some people are comfortable with guns, others are not. I do think all LGBT people should be encouraged to carry some type of weapon, whether a firearm, a blade or fist weapon, or a chemical weapon (pepper spray, mace).

Perhaps if enough would-be bashers got sent to the hospital, they learn to leave us alone.

If we start running this country based upon what some idiot in Floriduh might do then we'd all have to immediately check-in to mental institutions.

The right to bear arms is NOT limited to firearms.

Get UV-dye pepperspray, learn to use it properly, and carry it ready-to-hand ALWAYS.

If that fails, you can always reach for your backup ... if the cops think you're sane enough to carry concealed, that is.

I think arming our selves with guns is a bit extreme even if one has the right to do so. There are any number of non lethal ways to protect our selves out there to avail your self of.

Personally I feel a small pocket knife to be enugh where I live. My feancee and i both carry one on our walks at night. But as some one else mentioned pepper spray whith dye, that is a great option as well. As are tazers and self defence classes.

I think going straight to fire arms as your goto defence is a little over the top unless you live in an area where bashers are useing like force.

I believe that we should avail ourselves of all legal means of protection. Enroll in a self-defense class. Always carry some form of non-lethal protection and even if you never own a gun, learn how to use them.

Please be aware that pepper spray cannot be legally obtained or used in many countries and jurisdictions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper_spray#Leg...

In Canada, self-defence is almost entirely forbidden and you will be prosecuted for almost any resistance to attack. Recently a man was prosecuted here for stabbing an armed home invader and another was almost prosecuted (they decided to drop charges) for detaining a shoplifter who had repeatedly stolen merchandise from his shop. This is a area in which, as an immigrant to Canada from the US, I do not generally agree with Canadian (and European) policy, which I think is too restrictive. Nor do I agree much with American policy on self-defence, which seems to me to be way too lax. Unfortunately people who make laws cannot think in shades of gray, only in black and white.

Thanks for the link on pepper spray legalities. There is something sad in that we have to think to arm ourselves (to whatever degree) against other citizens who will attack us due to something that affects them in no way whatsoever. I'm not advocating that we turn the other cheek - we do need to have the means to protect ourselves - but it's still sad.
That being said - I wonder if there's a market for designer cases to hold the pepper spray??

Sure its OK to own a firearm; Danny Boi
.
But if you hurt somebody with it; YOU go to jail
.
Not to mention the victim sues your trigger-happy a$$ for his/her medical expenses; pain; suffering; and loss of income
.
So the best thing for you to do is stab your attacker with an icicle
.
After the icicle melts; the murder weapon no longer exists; no fingerprints; no DNA; no nothing; not a trace
.

Personally I often carry a gun for protection, even though I've never had to use it; though I did pull it out once when I felt threatened- and of course the cockroaches immediately ran like hell.

If you DO choose to carry a gun, please make sure you are qualified & trained. A gun in the hands of an untrained individual is a greater danger to themselves than any attacker.
