1. lottery as in "here, buy a ticket!" their choice
Funny that is comment is right above your comment about some needing 'help.' Wouldn't it 'help' to eliminate lotteries and other forms of legalized gambling, which cost the poor (as a group) much more than it ever gives them?
2. not everybody has the same opportunities in life and need help
Agree with the description of the probelm, but not the solution. Welfare has caused more poverty than it has helped.
3. if you dont trust them to decide whether they can care for a kid, how could you trust them to actually care for it
Mother Teresa handled the abortion question best: "It is poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish."
4. what does that even mean?
My guess is that it means we have gone too far in worrying about self-esteem building in schools and in homes, versus teaching needed self-discipline, but that's just a guess.
5. totally agreed
Me too.
6. without longing to acheive something more, you're never going to get there
True, but I think the point here is how much material things have become 'something more.'
7. a definite problem, but, mr. right wing, start worrying about how much were polluting the environment first
How about we worry about both?
8. so how about getting back all of their values, such as rich white males running the country; get a grip, times have changed
No question not all of their values were good, but we sure have abandoned a lot of the good ones.
9. two minutes singing a song x 5 days a week x 36 weeks per year x 13 years of school = 78 hours of education that we didnt have. go figure.
Whew. Put all of the secular pablum they teach in schools these days through this calculation and we could save YEARS of time. Go figure, indeed.
10. in the 21st century, people can make thier own values
Just remember that statement when some guy "values" your wallet in a dark ally. There are some universal truths and values that we must all adhere to or there is no civilization.
Just another thing: what exactly did your comment have to do with the forum?
I have no clue, but this is definitely a better topic!
