There are 5 comments on the www.southfloridagaynews.com story from Dec 11, 2012, titled Facebook Photo Of Boy Wearing Pink Shoes Goes Viral, Sparks Debate on Homosexuality and Bullying. In it, www.southfloridagaynews.com reports that:

A Facebook photo of a 5-year-old wearing pink shoes to school has gone viral on the blogosphere, and sparked a debate about homosexuality and bullying.

The image was posted on the Facebook page Have a Gay Day and came from an anonymous user who said her little brother, Sam, had decided to wear pink shoes to his first day of preschool, something which angered family members who saw the photo.

“Yesterday my mom posted a picture on Facebook of my 5-year-old brother Sam wearing a pair of shoes he picked out for his first day of preschool. She explained to him in the store that they were really made for girls. Sam then told her that he didn’t care and that 'ninjas can wear pink shoes too. “However, my mom received about 20 comments on the photo from various family members saying how 'wrong' it is and how 'things like this will affect him socially' and, put most eloquently by my great aunt, ‘that sh*t will turn him gay.’”

I just knew when I posted this the trolls would swarm in like flies on cow-patties.

They seem to forget this was a heterosexual mother not some gay pervert who decided what the child could wear.

Who the heck knows what this child's sexual orientation might be? He's just a little boy who thought the shoes were cool.

Are people really so silly to think that pink shoes will turn him gay?

Senior management at my bank often wear pink dress shirts and/or pink ties, and I don't believe any of them are gay.

Well, perhaps Jim may be ....

I am the author of a great kids book about gender stereotypes, PINK IS JUST A COLOR AND SO IS BLUE. The message of the book is that colors and the types of toys kids play with do not define who they are...or what they will become...Our ultimate goal in life is to assure that our kids grow up to be happy, confident, productive adults!!
