Marriage Equality Opponents Sound Incoherent Over Court Ruling

Jun 26, 2013 | Posted by: Sei | Full story: lezgetreal.com

Marriage equality won a big victory in the Supreme Court today, and the opponents offered up the usual run of incoherent defiance and odd comparisons.

This is the goofiest of the self-destructs:

American Family Association’s Tim Wildmon mourned:

"We are deeply saddened by today’s decision to not only allow but encourage same-sex marriage in our country — a country that was founded on biblical principles. We mourn for America’s future, but we are not without hope. Our next line of defense is to vigorously protect our religious liberty. The homosexual lobby and agenda is running rampant across America, and is even pervading our elementary schools. The judicial activism that is being demonstrated is deplorable as the Supreme Court is imposing its will on the people and legislatures of the fifty states in our United States of America. Now, we must warn against the coming persecution, the barrage of criticism and the aggressive action of the homosexual agenda to indoctrinate and change the thoughts and convictions of Americans to accept this lifestyle as the new normal. In addition, the trend of classifying statements that have a biblical foundation as ‘hate speech’ is one that AFA will do everything in its power to prevent."

No, really ... was this a "Saturday Night Live" skit? If so, it was the funniest one ever.

How can a group of "legislators" claim that the will of people should take precedence over the Constitution of the United States, a document that (correct me if I'm wrong), they took an oath to defend?

And in what alternate universe can they claim that a nuclear family of a biological mother and a biological father united in marriage, permanently, for the purpose of raising children is the norm in today's America?

Don't get me wrong, I just love clueless, elderly, straight white men in suits and ties, but isn't it time we put their rights to a vote of the majority?

If the court had ruled THEIR way they would be popping champagne corks and crowing at how well the system worked for THEM today. Not only are they bitter and angry, but they are terribly sore losers. Well, suck it up. It is here to stay. PERMANENTLY.

If things went their way in past fights for rights, slavery would still exist, women would still be treated as property, different ethnicities would still be getting discriminated against, and interracial marriage would never have existed.

I love how he claims we can't say his "biblical foundation" is hate speech.
Sorry, but claiming all gays are pedophiles, ignoring the facts, is quite obviously hate speech.

You would think that they were mourning the Court approving child sacrifice, instead of two people falling in love and getting legally married.

Well, they can't claim black people are black because of their sin anymore, they have to find something else to hate.

I have no idea what they'll hate next, but be sure they'll find something.

Bryan Fischer, of course, went on a rant claiming that he was now regulated to steerage-class (for those who do not know, steerage is…nautical I think. Yes, the lowest decks of a ship. Y’know, those old timey references don’t really work these days.) Additionally, he claimed that straight people were second-class citizens and that “They’ve done to us exactly what they were falsely accusing us of doing to homosexuals.”

Oh how the mighty have fallen. My God will he have to flew coach now?

For years they've been saying Romer vs Evans was Federal Law.

Well now we have Prop 8 and a very similar decision by the court.

In both cases the court, in effect, found "no standing".

But we also have Windsor!

I'm getting pretty tired of the 'for thousands of years' justification extrapolation!

For thousands of years we didn't have Christianity or Islam. For thousands of years bathing was considered sinful (pride). For thousands of years we had no internet.

Their point?

They've been sounding incoherent since they started their little religious crusade against equality, their babbling reactions to the rulings are a little less surprising than the sun rise.

Actually a bit pathetic if ya ask me.......read an article posted on FB from NOM about the rulings being illegitimate and how there is this stain on the High Court....and so on and so on and so forth.......it's just enough to make a person want to throw up for lack of nothing more than the same rhetoric that's been said probably thousands of times over the last 20 years!!!

From history that HAS been their take on controversial changes like the huge one yesterday. They scream doom and gloom and how it is Armageddon and civilization is over and blah blah blah, but in 5 years, since Americans have always had short attention spans, they have forgotten and moved on to some new windmill to tilt at.

I've noted the haters' statements are surprisingly muted and anti climactic. Even the big boys and girls, like Bachmann, and Fox News, are just having little hissy fits, sputtering, but resigned.

I think back to how horrified they were when DADT was struck and how that was the end of the military, but from what I have read, the military is running on like a Swiss watch, with almost zero problems, well, no GAY problems, it is those pesky HETEROS who can't keep it in their pants!

How sad, he won't get a glass of champagne and a little dish of warm mixed nuts while waiting for take off, but be relegated to screaming babies and tight unpleasant seats in the back. Poor "thang". Welcome to OUR world.

Once or twice I got upgraded to first class and ever after that, coach seems like hell. That reminds me of the current state of our country. We were forced to enter the plane THOUGH first class, them being allowed to enter first, seeing the swells in their cushy seats and already champagne guzzling, and it really sucked. Well, from now on WE don't have to keep walking to the back. We can sit down right up front and enjoy the party....

ah, sort of ditzy, I know, but I am feeling all romantic and creative writing mood today!

If for ANY reason alone, I am glad Obama was elected prez in 2008 for the fact that he put in Kagan and Sotamayor in as members of the Supremes. Can you imagine who President McCain would have given us as Judges and what THEIR verdict might have been yesterday if we had been saddled for LIFE two more like Scaly-ia and Clarence Thom-ass?

Oh, dear, I didn't mean to cause digestion troubles for you! Palin is pretty much neutered lately. They trot her out on occasion, she was screeching like a crow on Fox last week, but mostly she is moving into the irrelevant stage of her career.

I admit when she first hit the decks, she was a novelty, an attractive hyper conservative, since Ann Coulter has grown too stringy and vile for even Rush Limbaugh to drool over, but Palin's shelf life is pretty much over and those slim legs and tight abs are not the new republican beat off object anymore.
