How could his faith have been strengthened? As an atheist, that puzzles me. Yes, his mother came around after she was relieved that he really wasn't gay (would she have done so if he really was?) but on the other hand most of the "Christians" he met condemned him.

What I fail to understand and will NEVER understand about you liberal god-worshippers, no matter how long you try to justify your beliefs: If 90% of the folks in a religion are haters and are full of shit why do you stay with it for the other 15%? Unlike the god you worship (in three religions, at least), you are not being challenged by one of your own creations on whether or not to spare the destruction of a city for 10%. You can get up and leave. And I don't mean leave the denomination, I mean leave the whole FUCKING religion. You can still worship something if you want to be spiritual but why can't you make it up yourself? Why do you need the words of some hoary old "sages" and "messiahs" who lived millenniums ago in the Middle East and India? Why is their "truth" more valid than any "truth" you can concoct within your own mind? Can you please explain this to me!

@john

If only religion actually unites people and regardless that it doesn't, your words are evidence for why.

Why doesn't he just get a job at the federal reserve and get us all that interesting info the govt is "trying" to audit for us. I mean after all, they love poofters at the fed.
If we do get at it there will probably be more black ink than the Kennedy assassination documents.

By the people for the people

P.S.
John is a homofascist numbskull.

There could be no religion whatsoever and it still would not make
Adultery
Incest
Bestiality
Polygamy
Or Pedophilia
any less immoral or acceptable among a functionally sound family structure.

Did I miss anything?

John, you made a mistake in your post. It's the Regressive Conservatives who harbor the fascist religionists. As a Progressive Liberal I, and most other Liberals, favor equal rights and respect for the LGBT community and have openly fought for them. I am proud to live in NY where one of my favorite couples, two women, married last week. I think the fundamentalist Christians are a toxin force in our society because they can't seem to keep their beliefs private as they should be, but wish to force the entire nation to abide by their antiquated religious-based laws.

Why yes, of course, homosexuality sensationalized through pornography and the drug and alcohol abuse in this country has had absolutely nothing to do with the deterioration of the American family since the Hippie Movement. Forcing an entire nation? Why that would be you in the courts lumpchunks.

But you misundertand me. I am well aware of what you are saying. What I am challenging is why you feel you need to stick to organized religions established thousands of years ago MOST of whose followers ARE fascists!

It is much better for religious folks to stick by their traditions rather than cause a schism in their church because of the fundies. Not sticking by their church only cedes ground to people who would rather use religion divide instead of unite.

Do you think if the relatively few Muslims who were liberal left their faith it would empower the fanatic ones? They are already empowered in most Islamic countries. Besides, I don't frankly care what religions think about me, I only care when they influence how their sheep-brained but piranha-fanged followers treat me.
