When my same-sex spouse and I adopted in Minnesota back in 2006, our kids' birth certificate were reissued with my name and my spouse's name as the parents. Just like they've always done for heterosexual parents who adopt.

It's about time that some of the other states caught up with reality already acknowledged in places like MN.

What are the kids supposed to do later in life when they want an accurate record of their real birth parents?

I did not know that birth certificates were about the feelings of the parents or designed o help people play make believe.

I thought they were about acuratley recording the birth of children.

And they think kids are messed up today. They haven't seen anything yet. The idea of family is being so scrambled that it is headed toward inanity.

In this case, they do have an accurate record, as both biological parents are named on the birth certificate, the state is merely adding the second mother's name. In cases where the birth certificate issued doesn't have the name of the actual biological parents, those names, if known, are available from the state.

Birth certificates are essentially deeds issued for live births and it goes in the names of the folks taking the baby home with them, biological parent or parents or not. In the case of marriage, any child born into it, even through the use of surrogates, is considered a product of that marriage, biologically possible or not.

The state accurately records the birth with the names of the actual biological parents, if given, but then they issue the birth certificate in the names of the "parents" taking that baby with them.

Funny, that's the same thing men say when your mother pulls down her pants. I guess after you chewed and clawed your way out of her lady hole it was never the same.

News flash, Ward! It's not 1956 any more. Ward, June, Wally and the Beav may have reflected an idealized family structure back then, but families have always been way more diverse than the TV ever showed. And even then, we caught glimpses of this diversity in "My Three Sons," with a single dad raising 3 boys with the help of grandpa (no women involved).

Kids will be just fine if they have loving and caring parents of any combination of gender.

Don't straight folks often divorce and re-marry, "scrambling" their families and the drop of a hat?

I don't think any child will be harmed by THREE people taking legal responsibility for them, rather than just two.

I don't know how things are done today, but at one time, if a child was adopted, the names of the parents were edited to reflect the adoptive parents. Think about what that does to a person looking for their family medical information when they are not informed of the adoption.

What is issued in every instance where one or more of the parents taking the baby home isn't the biological parent is essentially an amended birth certificate that transfers baby ownership to those folk. The original, naming the actual biological parents, if known, is never issued, but kept on file if needed.

The state (at least in Minnesota where we adopted) still has the biological parents listed in the records -- the old birth certificates aren't destroyed.

"Closed" adoptions where the adopted child is denied a record of their birth parents is actually quite rare these days. Most adoptions are now "open" adoptions, often with the birth family being kept informed and connected to their biological children even though they are now legally no longer parents of that child.

In my family's case, our kids stay in touch with their biological family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) Their family just expanded through the adoption.

The kind of woman who could raise a witless hater like those above is not worthy of any respect or affection. I hope she was neutered after she gave birth to him so she could not produce any more abominations like him, or you.

Birth certs are issued to establish identity and guardianship of the child. Adoptive parents are the legal parents, and should e listed as such on legal documents.
