There is no denying that for sure. I fondly hold this movie near the top with The Godfather and I was only 4 when The Godfather came out. Eternal gems.
I saw "The Godfather" in the movie theatre when it first came out when I was 16 years old. Although it was a good movie then, I don't think it has withstood the test of time, and "GOODFELLAS" is a MUCH better movie on many levels, and a much more realistic movie about life in the mafia. Although I have a few quibbles with "GODDFELLAS", it HAS stood the test of time, probably always will, and I believe it is UNDOUBTEDLY THE BEST mafia movie ever made.

Goodfellas certainly is one of the best. I like the Godfather more because it just seems so original and old fashioned I guess. But yes, I do love Goodfellas just as much and respect any that claim it to be their favorite and best of all time. It certainly has its own originality to it.
Ray Liotta is all class. Hell, they all are.

It's not easy to keep me in front of a tv for 2-3 hours, especially with 4 children around, but there are some things well worth it.

I also read both books, both for the first time only 2 years ago. There were some things in the book which I wish they mentioned in the movie GOODFELLAS, such as which mafia family they were associates of (it was the Lucchese Family) and where most of the action was set in (it was set mostly on Long Island, and not only did they not mention that, they never mentioned where in Brooklyn, Queens, or Nassau County things took place in the movie).(They DID mention "Five Towns" once which is a small section of southwestern Nassau County, Long Island).

Also, in the book (which is supposedly all factual), the way Henry was finally caught was by a drug dealer (which also wasn't mentioned in the movie) that turned on him. I attended Commack High School South and from the book I learned that the drug dealer who turned Henry in, attended there, and dealt drugs there, although I didn't recognize his name.)

But I do think "GOODFELLAS" is a much superior movie to "The Godfather" (which btw ALSO took place on Long Island although that is only mentioned in the movie in passing once).

Thanks for sharing. I do read books and at some point I just may do so with the two movies referenced. The last several months I've been reading about the Native Americans and spirituality. I can't help what I believe to be so wrong on this continent and the connection to how we have lived excessively in all areas and the affects it has on the world physically, spiritually, and financially.

If you have about six minutes or so go to youtube and type in indigenous elders speak part I. It is a vid by the late Hopi elder Floyd "Red Crow" Westermann. It was a stark eye opener for me when I first watched it in 2009 and started me in turning my life around spiritually. Red Crow was a musician and actor, his biggest role was in Dances With Wolves.

Lastly, and most recently I have read and I am re-reading Ron Pauls book End The Fed. I hope we do so soon but unfortunately Romney doesn't will do no such thing. Regretfully I believe we are in very serious trouble and with half the country being uneducated makes it all the worse.
Thanks again.

I can't quite pinpoint what party I am anymore. I like Gov Jesse Venturas idea in that we should be statesmen and not declare any party and run on your name and what you believe in.

Yes I want the fed gone. I want lower taxes for all. Govt shrunk by over half. Let Israel defend Israel. Get out of the Middle East. "Decriminalize" some drugs.

I do however understand how capitalism can go too far and does create many losers if you will. What do we do with people that wish to be literally nothing in life and just grow their own food, hunt, and fish to get by and want nothing to do with govt like the Indians. Gettin late and I'm getting choppy. Plus I got to watch the debate. Regardless of what happens I really think Obama is a goner.
Talk to ya later.
