same sex marriage isn't about you or your feelings or beliefs, nor is it about my thoughts feelings or beliefs. it's about fairness and equality under the law. that's it. so far, in all court cases, every attorney hired to defend prop 8 or doma has failed to prove a state interest in maintaining those laws. since there's no state interest in preserving marriage laws as they stand, there's no legal reason to keep same sex couples from marrying - but you know all this.

public secular law isn't about anyone's feelings. it isn't about what you nor i think. it's about fairness and equality for everyone. somethings you may like, somethings you may not like. likewise for myself. it's a matter of maturity of whether or not you're going to whine and moan about it. whining for my 8 yr old daughter is understandable because of her age & lack of maturity to deal with things or issues that she doesn't like or want to do. but she's at least learning to deal with things that don't go her way.

<quoted text>Whining and moaning is ALL you radical homosexuals do. Besides the occasional boycott or smear campaign. So when are you folks going to mature? Voter's in something like 38 states have defined marriage as a union between two members of the opposite sex. That isn't about feelings, it's about natural law and morality. What can't you understand about that?

when people like you understand that laws cannot be exclusionary, like the prop 8 law. we're using the courts to prove the points, as is this is a society based upon public secular laws. otherwise, we'd take to the streets like you saw in Egypt and other muslim countries and protest violently. this is a matter of laws, dry though that may be. we're following the rules by filing law suits and allowing the judicial branch decide when the laws are proven to be unconstitutional. DOMA & Prop 8 findings of unconstitutionality have been upheld so far. you may fail to understand that concept but it's no up to me to explain that to you. you'll have to figure that out on your own, blunt. or find someone you trust enough to explain it to you until you understand what "ALL" in the constitution really means.

good luck.

<quoted text>You imitate a parrot quite well. You can try and throw our Judeo-Christian heritage under the bus, and you will get some radical leftist judges to rule in your favor, but you'll never get the majority of Americans to agree with homosexual "marriage", no matter how hard you want it to be. The good thing is that you poor, sick and twisted folks have only a small window of opportunity with which to get your disgusting behavior rammed down the public's throats. When the economy goes south next year, queer "rights" will not be on anyone's dance card.
how many times do you have to be told that public secular laws are politically and religously neutral - it doesn't matter how anyone feels or believes. it's all about keeping an even and fair playing field.

and you may want to look at some of those polls taken in the last few years - the majority of americans are for same sex marriage. not that public opinion matters when it comes to civil rights.

and again, the economy is looking better than it has in the prior few years. those darned economists just seem to disagree with you.

looks like you're painting yourself into a corner without facts, data - or principles, blunt.

good luck.

and it's exactly that money and various other assets that my same sex spouse and i want to protect - just like you and your supposed wife do in your life.

our end of life decisions should be made by our spouse - just like in your life.

our pensions and SS survivor benefits should go to our spouses - just like in your life.

thanks for realizing that blunt. i think you've made an amazing breakthrough here!

In those early days you dream of marriage was strictly a business contract, basically a money making, or power grab, venue for the families. Often the partners never met until their wedding day. Sometimes infants were "engaged" as soon as they were born.

Only since the early Victorian times has the wedding become the big "hearts and flowers" pretty candy box that we all know now.

in legal terms, no. the basis of marriage law in the united states is contract law.

churches, faiths, religions can all continue as they wish. some will perform same sex marriages (as they currently do) or not. currently, churches already decide whom they marry - as recent as 2011 the black couple attending a predominantly white church was denied the ability to marry. my own pastor has chosen not to marry couples because of some reason he had at the time. there's no difference between what is coming and what is currently in place and has been in place all along insofar as church doctrine and beliefs go.

here in america the laws are secular. period. this is not a theocracy. no one dictates what anyone else believes or chooses not to believe. we cannot legislate faith or adherence to any particular faith, religion or denomination.

You really have absolutely no idea what the Christian history of marriage is, do you? There's a fifteen plus century long gap in your 3000 year long covenant for Christians of the Catholic persuasion and if you are of a Protestant persuasion, depending on which, that gap can go two and three more. Marriage was not a required sacrament of the Western Christian church and not a particularly popular one, because there was no getting out of it alive. Marriage and divorce were largely handled by civil authorities according to local law. The Church blessed fornication for procreative purposes only, in the form of the rite of betrothal. If nothing came of it, that you could get annulled, but when it came to marriage, what God brings together is what you got. In order to be married by the Church a couple had to bring in proof that their betrothal had been successfully consummated and was usually done right before your proof's baptism. It was strictly optional and as long as you were legally married at some point in your betrothal, the Church was happy. The Church offered all sorts of optional blessings back then, including one that blessed male pairs as "brothers". The Church insisting on blessing marriages was actually one of the reasons for the Protestant Reformation. Many of the early Protestant Churches wouldn't go into the blessing of marriage business until the 17th and 18th Centuries. The Puritans were so dead set against it, in their Massachusetts Colony, the ONLY marriages recognized by the government were civilly officiated, regardless of religion.

No Church or other place of worship, or any officiant thereof, can be forced to perform any opposite sex marriage that does not meet their doctrinal requirements, no matter the couple's legal right to marry. Why people would all change now that same sex marriage is legally permissible is beyond me.

Reality, you aren't the only Christian faith on the block. You speak only for your choice of beliefs, whether God agrees with you or not is up to Him, not you. If your choice of Church's and its officiants do not want to perform same sex marriages, they would no more be required to than any other legal marriage that doesn't meet their requirements.

Ah yes, the oft forgotten benevolence of the Republican Party towards the Black man, which saw them from Reconstruction straight into the arms of Jim Crow for the better part of a century. Too bad when they finally got the vote, they voted against your historical friendship in appreciation for all you had done for them over the decades.

sorry buddy. you don't get to decide for me how or what i call my marriage, nor do i get to call yours anything other than marriage. it's a legal term.

go read the transcripts of the SCOTUS hearing from yesterday and maybe you'll learn a thing or two.

if you dont' have to draw up a legal contract (unless you need a prenup) in order to get married, then neither should i. it's all clearly defined in law. anything more is redundant.

Obama should be focusing on JOBS! not worrying about gays in the Boy Scouts or amnesty or gay marriage or obamacare or golfing or vacationing, he can worry about all that after the economy has been looked at, but he would never get to any of that because he has no clue what he is doing. For the life of me I can not understand how homosexuals let Obama dupe them into believing that he has evolved, the same can be said for the Clinton's.

it's our system of government. the judges went through the vetting process and were allowed to step onto the supreme court's bench. just because you dont' like them doesn't mean they're unqualified.

tell ya what, write them and congress a letter calling for all of their dismissal, and start a petition. see how far ya get. good luck ya raving loon-a-tick.
