Next time you are done reading a gay/lesbian newspaper/magazine, or some sort of activist flier or publication instead of tossing it in the trash, leave it at your doctors office, waiting room, library, etc so you can not only recycle but pass on queer issues to the next reader.

PLEASE don't be stupid enough to leave something that has offensive ads in it. That includes looking for sex partners not just porn ads.

THIS is just another fine example of activism done on the dumb by someone who couldn't find their ass without a sign and has never been involved in the gay rights movement or any other civil rights movement in their lives.

Actually it is the ultimate in activism stupidity! You idiots are going to destroy any and all progress we have made since the AIDS war because of your newfound caring. STOP IT!

Agreed.

The article in Options, the local gay rag here in Providence, was especially gag-worthy when they so lovingly explained why gays are more important than transpeople after the gays dumped us from ENDA.

And lets not forget the wildly racist rantings of rosie O'Donnell and Dan Savage, as well as many other gay pundits after Prop 8.

I think the porn would be a better find. That way, straight types will be envious of all the sex we're having.
And that has to be better than yet another installment in Why Gays Need to Discriminate to Get Theirs and why other people need to be ground down in the Process.

But then again, very few things queer are suitable for public consumption now, right?

If you could have children and weren't so bitter perhaps you could understand why many gay publications aren't appropriate to leave around a doctors office any more than some straight publications might be. Common sense prevails, unless of course, you don't have any. And that's fairly obvious.

Your sniping aside, I agree. Gay pubs should not be left out in the open.

They tend not to carry the Good Housekeeping Seal Of Approval.

Bitter? I'm the cranky older lesbian your mama warned you about. Next!
Beyond that, go check out Mombian for a site that DOES get the kid safe rating.
They are here:http://www.mombian.com/

Have fun! and as one bitter old queer to another, "Pleased to meet you!"

Can I give you a big sloppy kiss now?

Yeah! I leave my old issues of 'Curve' at the doctor's office all of the time. Rock somebody's world. Maybe you will save some kids life.

You know what he was talking about there Tom...

We listened to you of the old guard for far too long... we are active now because we see the old guard is totally ineffective...

It is you who needs to look at your plan... because if you do you might notice... it is not working.

Maybe you should grow up and update your knowledge. There are no "sex ads" in mainstream GLBT magazines anymore, like "The Advocate" or "OUT". In fact, my doctor's office already gets these magazines and they're there on the table to view by waiting patients.

Your rant only shows your ignorance and bigotry by assuming that all gay people are somehow less appropriate than you. People like you are far more offensive than those you spew about.

Agreed.
But making sure the racist, transphobic tripe and the porn isn't part of the picture just might be some self censorship worth considering.

I certainly wouldn't want to leave lesbian author Julie Bindel lying around, nor racist pundits like Dan Savage or John Aravosis.

A little selectivity does wonders here.

Somewhere in the middle of your arguements is the right thing to do.
Leave Proud Parenting Magazine, HRC nwsletters, GLSEN newsletters and other thing like that in doctor's offices, hair salons, auto repair waitng rooms, etc.

Didn't imply that he didn't but there's a hell of a lot of fools out there and YOU as a mother should be ashamed of yourself for not wanting them protected from those fools. Same goes for toting two guns. Someone's children could get hurt. There are one hell of a lot of inappropriate for children gay/lesbian publications out there. Just the same would apply to straight publications for those with any common sense.

Honey, you'd still not be allowed to enjoy your gay life if it wasn't for some now very, very old drag queens who carried YOUR burden for you. Without them and many thousands of other gay men and lesbians you would be SOL. I'd suggest you save your mockery or at minimum check your rear view mirror.

Sad that you have to repeatedly attack the messenger instead of the message. Just where is that getting you? My advocacy saved hundreds and even thousands of lives. Same goes for hundreds of others who you very unwisely choose to disparage. But then you wouldn't understand disrespect I imagine. What were you doing until a very, very short time ago? I know and so do you. Welcome to the party, finally.

All this sniping amongst ourselves is exactly what the anti-LGBTQ folks are waiting for. Let's not give them any more ammunition!

I agree in principal with the idea of leaving LGBTQ POSITIVE literature around the places we live but we must do so with prudence and responsibility.

Nobody wants to endanger or expose children or others with inappropriate reading materials. Just please be real...we all want equality and if this suggestion just might...again I say, JUST MIGHT...open some people's eyes to the fact that we're just the same as everyone else regardless of our sexual orientation and have the right to equal rights..then why not give it a try?!?

Honey there are hundreds of local gay rags out there and for many of them those inappropriate ads that you believe don't exist are their bread and butter along with ads for the local bars.

Some newly born "gay activist" starts dropping that stuff off where it's inappropriate could end up in a community backlash that would rip your head from shoulders.

Just because you are blessed with a physicians office that is open minded doesn't mean squat. Most doctors offices don't make enough money to buy anything other than medical magazines period.

Drop one of the magazines you mentioned off in an office in some of the smaller cities and towns across our nation would only serve to feed the ignorant bigots and could cause harm to the queer folks living there.

You need a reality check of some sort.

Try improving your reading comprehension before you go flailing about solely for your own aggrandizement. I specifically wrote "mainstream GLBT magazines anymore, like 'The Advocate' or 'OUT'".

I do live in reality, you still live in the closet and that is exactly where we DON'T need to be anymore. The sooner old fools like you die off the better we all will be. Hiding and cowering like a cockroach doesn't help our cause any. Step aside and let someone with a backbone take over, you're just taking up space.

You MIGHT want to read what was proposed by the originator of this piece since YOU want to talk about comprehension skills. Try taking a couple of your "mainstream" publications outside Atlanta and putting them in some doctors office in their smaller towns. You'd get your ass kicked for certain.

As to me being out of the closet, darlin you know nothing about me nor my decades of gay activisim. We're the ones who took the doors off the closets so you could sit and post your disrepectful ignorant blather. I'm the same man who married my husband in a church 15 years ago this Christmas. And the same man who raised more than $3.5 MILLION dollars for AIDS services and prevention in my community while you were still in diapers sitting on your nannys lap probably.

Reality is we're not seeking to take over the world nor to insult the intelligence of most Americans. We will get where we want with knowledge, fairness and thoughtful action which will move us to our goals without destroying much needed support from our straight friends. You're ignorance of our movement is far, far beyond enlightened or progressive. Typical of those new to the table. Get a grip.

Get back to me after you've done 5% of what I and all those other "old fools" have towards our goal of equal rights. In say 10 years.

LOL, you sure aren't qualified to denigrate anything I've done, either, b*tch. I'm not some young twinkie, I am an out and proud gay man of nearly 50 years who has been out and proud since I was 16 years old. You've done NOTHING that I haven't done equally as well or better, so try to control your overactive ego.

You scored nothing, I simply call it as I see it. You've done nothing here but beat your chest and try to shout-down anyone who disagrees with you. You don't help anybody else unless you can boost your own ego in the process. Everything you do is just so you can boast. That is rather sick.

Your kind needs to go quietly into the night and let someone with some balls take over. You're the "Step N Fetchit" of the gay world.

Whenever someone (check your mirror) goes after the poster instead of the post guess who couldn't hold up their end of the debate?

Just the fact ma'am, just the facts. Bless your tiny little heart.
