Holy merde, an ugly hypocrite who wears his stupidity like a badge. He could be a Topix troll, if he isn't one already.

Never mind that I find that hypocrisy appalling, how is this going to sit with this Mayor's right wing, homophobic supporters?

I'd say he no longer has a political base...whether it used to be left wing or right wing.

He's like the intellectual, continental version of Mayor Rob Ford. That's a rehab worthy pratfall....

He appears to separate his personal beliefs from the requirements of his office.

Good.

Nah. He's just a basic hypocrite that has one standard for himself and a different one for everyone else. That's nothing to be proud of.

Who gives a crap about "proud".

This is precisely what we've been fighting for ... politicians and officials who can leave their personal issues at home; i.e. have a religion means living it, NOT imposing it on others.

This guy is church/state separation in practice.

Except that he's got it completely backwards. He wants the freedoms for himself and his family, but he doesn't want anyone else to have them.

I have no argument if someone wants to reject their OWN civil rights protections. If you're a woman who doesn't believe women should vote, don't vote! If you're a person that doesn't support interracial marriage, don't marry someone of a different race. If you don't believe in Judaism, don't be Jewish. If you don't believe in freedom of speech, don't ever say anything that someone might disagree with (good luck with that one).

But you have NO business telling anyone else that THEY, too, should be denied any of those things just because you wish to deny them from yourself.
