There are 12 comments on the EDGE story from Mar 7, 2013, titled Healthy Gay Men Must Be Allowed to Donate Blood, Says GMHC. In it, EDGE reports that:

Tired of the bureaucratic foot-dragging, the Gay Men's Health Crisis has teamed up with the Sarah Lawrence College Student Life Committee and the Student Senate to create a We The People online petition to demand that the President Barack Obama urge the Food and Drug Administration to reform their policy preventing gay men from donating blood.

They are supposed to test all the blood, gay or straight. Every healthy person should be able to donate blood. That is that much more blood for everyone.

I'd rather die than have gay blood put into my body and end up with AIDS.

They really don't know who they're getting the donated blood from do they. Staits are just as likely to be infected with something of which they're unaware. It's the same with tatoos; why not ask the person to give permission for tests rather than say a flat out no you can't be a donor.

If you were in the hospital bleeding out, I don't care what you type, you would take the blood. Even if it was aids infected you would because you would know at least you'll have a couple more years to live.

All donated blood is tested for over 70 communicable diseases. All donors answer questions about their health history, their travel history, and their sexual history. High-risk sexual behavior, whether gay or straight, from 1977 to the present, results in permanent deferral from donating blood.

There is no such thing as the "right" to donate blood for community use. Those who are deferred are not having their rights violated for Chrissakes.

If I were bleeding out, it would be a quick death rather than the slow, agonizing deterioration of death from AIDS. I would refuse a lifesaving transfusion of blood from any donor who was at risk for HIV exposure, regardless of his or her sexual orientation. Better to die a quick death than to literally ROT from the inside out over a period of several agonizing years.

Look at magic Johnson, does it look like he's rotting from the inside out? No. If you lead a healthy lifestyle take the meds then you can die from natural cause and not big/aids. I see manic living at least another 10 years, and he's happy, active/strong, and no where near death.

Maybe if you contracted hiv you would give up on your self, but I guess that's just the type of person you are. That they type of person easy e was, and he did what you would do. Ignore it all let it kill you. There's plenty of people not like you and him, who would and do fight to stay healthy and live a long life with hiv.

With today's medicine hiv is not a death sentence.

Magic Johnson appears healthy and strong. But he can no longer be sexually intimate with anyone who isn't already infected with HIV.

Magic Johnson is a multi-zillionaire who can AFFORD the meds that keep him alive and strong.

We ordinary working folk can't afford it. Nor can the nation afford to provide it for free as part of a socialized insurance program. For most of us, AIDS is a death sentence.

And just how, pray tell, would you know that you have "gay blood"? You wouldn't. So, next time, the doctor tells you that only a transfusion would save your life, just turn it down. Wouldn't want you to have a decent outlook on life now, would we?

Prove it. Use only FACT-BASED sites to back yourself up. The following do NOT qualify as fact-based: whirlednutsdaily, the "afa", the "frc", the "cwa", bryan fischer (known homophobe) and the westboro cult.
