Like every other gay person I know, I rejoiced at the recent statement by Pope Francis I that, in his view, the Catholic Church has been overly "obsessed" with homosexuality, abortion and birth control.

Certainly church can survive. It's time to move on, the word is out about these things. Now it's time to renew our spiritual side once again. Must learn to be humble, obey the 10 commandments that were given to Moses. Attend Mass on a regular basis. Praise and glorify God our creator. Gays are Gods creatures just as the developing fetus in a womb is Gods creature.
Avoid the occasion of sin.

Wouldn't devout catholics time be better spent HELPING those women that are having abortions, the ones with no money, no family support, and the ones sexually abused?

Catholic activists should visit their homes, shelters, hospitals and let them know their options?

Help them work to make adoption less complicated and less costly.

Get off the streets with your placards and get to the homes and help these women who desperately need guidance and encouragment. NOT COMDENATION AND CRITICISM.

The roman catholic church has enough of their own clergy problems to deal with without condemming others.

They already do that.

Look up "Catholic Charities" on Google.

This pope has toned down the rhetoric on zeroing in on gays, abortion and birth control. Everybody is a sinner. No dogmas or teachings of the church has changed.

No doubt the Catholic Church is into charity work.

The church's teachings say no sex unless your are married because if you do have sex it's a sin. But if the Church say they love gays but a gay male still cannot be a priest. This tells me the Catholic Church still has this issue being anti-gay. Their manner of presentation has changed but the real message of not judging hasn't.

You can't have it both ways!

I missed where they said a gay man can't be a priest. Their priests are celibate.

That may have, but I didn't see it. Can you cite that?

There are ministries in catholic parishes that do this very thing. Why not join a parish and lend a helping hand with these issues as stated.
Never any condenation or criticism that I'm aware of. We are all God's creatures remember. although you may be correct to some people out there being critics. no one is perfect, only God is perfect.

It takes time for people to change attitude. Give us a break please and lend a helping hand. We are not perfect.

There is no obsession on the part of the church. Their rules haven't changed. Gays are pushing harder and the church is pushing back.
