I think this ban will end in the near future.

I used to give blood quite frequently, then they no longer allowed it. I have always tested IV-. It used to anger me, but then I decided that it's not my job to supply blood, and if patients die from lack of available A+, it changes nothing in my life. Let them explain it to the family.

You and me both. I don't intend to give it even after they lift the ban. Except to family and friends. Let'em die, I say.

Straights can have unprotected sex with a different partner every single day, and will be allowed to donate blood.

A gay virgin cannot donate blood. And yet bigots try to claim there is no anti-gay hate involved.

To be fair, I believe they ask about sexual activity. Whether or not they believe someone is a virgin is another matter.

Yes, because you're not worthy of receiving it.

I've never had an STD, which is a helluva lot more than a lot of heteros can say.

About a decade ago, a teenage boy killed himself after years of harassment at school. When his family tried to donate his organs, they later learnt that the organs were rejected because the boy was gay. He had never had sex, but the bigotry of breeders made them reject the perfectly healthy and clean organs based on a stupid fiction. There are are more breeders running around with hepatitis, herpes and other diseases communicable via blood and organs, yet you don't see those being rejected.

There is still a lot of ignorance out there, that's for sure. The donor situation you describe could be prejudice or medical caution. A decade ago, there was no reliable, quick HIV test. From a medical POV, I can see being careful since there was no time for the longer testing period and there was no proof he had never had sex.

And yes, it's idiotic to assume straights aren't carrying HIV.
