First off the Advocate isn't a local newspaper. It's a national Gay and Lesbian Magazine. Secondly this department is trying to enforce a law that is unconstitutional and they know it. Sodomy laws were ruled invalid in this country years ago. I can't see how we can be paying someone to basically hang around parks trying to get people to have sex with them while we struggle to buy books for school children. I'm all for protecting children from public sex, but no public sex took place in these cases. Oh and to Morgan's comment that we already have equal rights. If you think gays and lesbians ALREADY have equal rights then explain why you won't let us get married in your State. Lastly, if you believe in the Bible, I hope you follow Matt. 25:31-46 better than what I usually see in the news.

You think gay perverts should be allowed to cruise parks looking to hookup for anonymous sex? The police use the same tactics to arrest heterosexual men out cruising for prostitutes. Undercover female officers pose as hookers and bust men when they proposition them. These men's names and addresses and pictures are then posted in the newspaper and on the internet.

Glad you believe that sticking your nose into other adults sex lives is part of the government's job. More important than hiring more police, firefighters and school teachers.

IMO prostitution is basically a victimless crime. And it's legal in many places. When it's regulated like it is in Nevada or The Netherlands I don't think they have more trouble catching child molesters or rapists than in places where it's illegal.

Trying to portray me as a pervert only makes you look foolish. These people didn't commit the crime they were charged with. Which is why the judge threw the cases out.

But hey if you think it's a good idea to let police ignore the law and that somehow protects children, I'll give you the secret to making pigs fly.

The fundamentalist extremists called in false reports to tarnish the exemplary reputations of the People of the Gay Master Race
.
Fundies pulled the same sleazy pranks during the civil rights movement in the 1960s. You know the type:
http://m0.i.pbase.com/o6/04/318004/1/73285000...
.
Fundies finally got run out of town by armed National Guard troops who were activated to enforce civil rights equality

.
The National Guard came after the fundies with army tanks:

.
It will happen again with gay rights if the fundies don't lighten up
.
Civil Rights Equality is serious business; not a game

None of the men arrested we're arrested for solicitation or prostitution. There was never any talk of money or remuneration, so you are comparing apples to oranges. These men met and made plans to go elsewhere, like home, and have sex. They were then arrested under the sodomy law, which was declared Unconstitutional in 2003 by the US Supreme Court. Residents of this county should be deeply concerned because the county has now opened the tax-payers up to tens of millions of dollars in litigation for Civil Rights Violations. These 12 men have clear "1983" claims for Deprivation of Civil Rights Under Color of Law and violations of the 1st, 4th and possibly 5th amendment to the US Constitution. The tax-payers will end up paying the legal fees and hefty damages awarded to these 12 men.

Don't some straight people cruise everything from grocery stores, to bars to public beaches hoping to hook up for sex?

Seems silly to me, but it's not illegal unless they are having sex IN these public places.

Who? And for what? Don't you need to commit a crime? And if we start incarcerating anyone who has ever hooked up with someone they don't know well for sex, you will be paying to incarcerate the majority of the straight population.

You want to pay for that? Would you be one of those who will spend life behind bars?

At least try rational thought.

Since I think you must be talking about the "sheriff" and deputies I agree, they are after all the only law breakers here.

Like straight men never meet girls in a park and try to pick them up! You're really off the Idiot scale there Mr. Jonsie.

Nahh, just go to some cheap bar and pick up your floozies there. That is perfectly fine. Isn't that how your dad met your mom? For twenty five crisp dollar bills?

Well said. We both know that illegal prostitution is a problem. Yet the 'family values' folks don't want to address it in a way that makes sense. Look at FRC's George Rekkers and his rentboy!

In any case no public sex was happening. And I don't see a lot of arrests of males by female officers in these stings. In fact female officers rarely get these assignments. Instead they get put out in dangerous areas where their lives are on the line.

Officer Darling though, and these other male sheriff's deputies? They gets to sit at the park all day trying to pick up guys and we pay them!

Yes I think anyone should be able to seek companionship anywhere. Thing is these men were lured BY POLICE out of the park to an apartment where they were then arrested.

No money exchanged hands, No public sex occurred. No private sex occurred. So what crime do you see here?

I wish I could get a government paycheck to sit in parks trying to pick up people to NOT have sex with.

Exactly. WE never see these stings at the Green Grocer or the laundromats. Or even a church meeting!

To paraphrase the words of Hulk Hogan "whatcha gonna do when Judge -O -mania runs wild on you?”

Matthew 25:31-46
The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right,‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him,‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply,‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left,‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer,‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply,‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
