What does being Gay have to do with viable organs being donated to folks who need them? My guess is NOTHING more than ignorance on the part of folks who think that being Gay means bad or something!!!

Gotta be an HIV blood ban thing, or, as you said, nothing more than ignorance.

I see the daily trolls have popped in........maybe they should try becoming a bit more human, but then....that would be asking to much!!!

By the way, that could be a possibly....but I DON'T believe the article mentioned the young man having HIV/AIDS.....such more speculation by narrow-minded [email protected]!!!

The answer to your question is nothing. Sexually active is another story. His liver, lungs, kidneys, and heart were accepted. His eyes were rejected because his mother couldn't say if he was sexually active or not in the past five years. It is FDA policy and was put into place to protect the public.

Wondering, can you offer a reason why his liver, lungs, kidneys, and heart we acceptable to the FDA while his eyes were not? Or are you just engaging in your signature bigotry wherein your support anything that is anti-gay, regardless of how irrational it may be, or how unevenly it is applied?

The organ supply will be kept safe only through HIV testing. Believe it or not, gay teens aren't the only ones taking chances.

Why would it be okay to transplant his heart and liver, but not his eyes? It sounds to me like whoever is in charge of eye donations is a bigger homophobe than other people in the transplant community.

Point well made.....if the young man's other organs were accepted for transplant, then why NOT his eyes? Wondering should read this as it makes more sense then his asinine comment!!!

See my comment to nhjeff:-)

If you can't, here's my response to you......if his liver, heart, lungs and kidneys were accepted for donor organs....THEN so should his eyes have been able to donate as well..........it seems that the person who rejected this young man's eyes feared something NOT in evidence!!!

1. I'm not a doctor. I can only guess that the organs were tested. I'm sure the FDA would respond to your question. You could ask your father, he's a doctor. Most of them are pretty worthless though.
2,. That's a stupid comment, nothing unusual for you. It hints of trolling.

So, do you think that the eyes could be infected, but not the heart or kidney? Do you also think that the eyes could not be tested the same way as the heart or kidney?

It's a good thing you never tried to become a doctor. You had enough trouble making it out of that two-room school in Lowell.

1. I don't know, I'm not a doctor. Ask the FDA? Maybe the test would be destructive.
2. From grades 1 through 12 I was on he super honor roll, A average, for 10 years and the honor roll, one B in each of those years, for two. I had no problem making it through school.

Wondering, one doesn't need to be a doctor to understand that the FDA's concern is HIV/AIDs, which is tested for via blood samples. If the sample was found to contain HIV/AIDs, then ALL organs from the donor would be unacceptable for transplant.

It seems you are continuing to go out of your way not only to prove that you are not a doctor, but also that you aren't terribly intelligent.

I'm not a doctor and I'm proud to say it. Of course the concern is HIV, I'm surprised someone told you that and you remembered. I don't think telling you that I'm not a doctor is going out of my way to prove I'm not. Prove you're not gay. Prove you have a brain. Prove your favorite activity isn't licking toilet seats in the men's room at Grand Central Station.
