Really a reasonable compromise. It allows gay kids, even if it restricts gay adults.

It's SUPPOSED to be about the KIDS, so ... fine, I can sign on to that.

I don't like the implication that gay adults are somehow inherently dangerous, but I'll take that one for the kids. It will change with time, and I can wait until it does.

Patience and tolerance (within reason) for others' fears is a good things, especially on this issue. I can give them some time to evolve ... for the kids' sakes.

So you can wait for access to minor young men!

The priest abuse scandal was over 80% homosexual in nature and primarily involved homosexual molestation of Scout aged minor young men. That situation nearly bankrupted the Catholic Church. How can Scouts afford such liability?

Do you also want sexually active young men to go on campouts with Girl Scouts, you perv!

If so, YOU'D be wrong because a Child Molester chooses their victim not just because they are a boy or a girl, but because the child is VULNERABLE!!!

Sorry, Girl Scouts DON'T go on joint campouts with Boy Scouts.......for many reasons.....one is because the Girls Scouts DO IT BETTER!!!

just a thought here....if they allow gay boys to join, then would that leave them open to efforts to 'conversion therapy' in the mind of the scout leader? or even some sort of bias? given their history, with regards to homosexuality, i just have to ask.

'ex-gay therapy' is religious terminology for the physical and mental torture and molestation of gay people for easy money

.
To get rid of 'ex-gay' therapy; the boy scouts must prohibit religion 100% no exceptions; no excuses

Patience and tolerance is all well and good, but restricting gay adults is still teaching and perpetuating the wrong message IMHO. It's a half step in the right direction, but not good enough for me or my kids or grandkids. I will not "wait" for a presumed time when they supposedly evolve on this issue. But honestly, the BSA are not the only game in town. Both kids and adults can get involved in many other organizations that don't have such ignorant policies that teach our children hate. Go elsewhere, I say.

It's a partial step toward inclusion.

Once they realize gay kids in scouting isn't the end of the world, then they'll take the next step.

Not acceptable. Gay teenage boys are going to become gay young men and to say to them that you can be a scout, but that's it, thank you, but your services are no longer required nor welcome. No.

I understand, but this is a compromise. There isn't even a "keep it to yourself" clause.

This one is about the kids, remember. They come first. I'm fairly certain that a gay kid's parents can make the necessary intellectual adjustments, while another generation of kids get to grow up with scouting in their CVs.

I expect problems, but mostly they will be adults' problems. The kids will learn. Kids understand fairness on an instinctive level.

Tell that to those being left behind, all those boys who make it all the way to Eagle Scout, only to be told there isn't a future after that in scouting, all the lesbian den mothers and gay fathers who were involved in scouting because of their kids being in it that we kept hearing about getting bounced. Maybe some day. In some ways, their compromise is more offensive than what they were doing. Well boys, you can be gay, but your only acceptable role models/leaders are heterosexuals, who statistically are more likely to sexually abuse you by the way. Skip that last part. But we will protect you from the homosexuals.

I am telling them PRECISELY THAT.

Now if some EXPLORER SCOUTS want to raise a ruckus, I'll get behind them.

For right NOW, no little gay kid who wants to do Scouting will be denied by the terms of this compromise, or my position on it. Can you say the same of yours?

A compromise that tells those gay kids that they are worthless as adults, too much of a compromise. My position tells them they can have a future, because both gay youth and adults are worthy of openly participating in scouting.

I trust parents can spin it.

Realistically, the kids won't think about it.

I agree it's about the kids... and teaching them that discrimination is acceptable is... well, not acceptable. It's nice to give kids credit for understanding fairness instinctively... but remember, prejudice and bigotry are learned... and kids learn from adults and their rules and policies.

Your OWN instincts tell you not to agree with the implication that gay adults are a danger to children. Pay attention to THAT instinct when considering the kids.

Parents are not congressmen or women. When it comes to their kids, they do not HAVE to compromise. They can simply make choices that best suit them. I would not compromise my own principles on this. I would not choose BSA until they get it right. You are entitled to do what suits you.
