Prince George’s school system pulls controversial video

There are 15 comments on the www.washingtonpost.com story from Feb 10, 2013, titled Prince George’s school system pulls controversial video. In it, www.washingtonpost.com reports that:

A controversial video that offers therapy as a way for gay students to become straight has been pulled from Prince George’s County schools.

Briant Coleman, a spokesman for the school system, said the school system took the action after reviewing “Acception,” a 21-minute film that has been used by six middle school health teachers as part of the school system’s anti-bullying curriculum.

“We determined that there was not enough information about bullying prevention to justify using it as a supplemental resource for our anti-bullying program,” Coleman said in a statement. The film follows four students as they do research for a class project on bullying and homosexuality.

The story suggests it is being shown in other districts in other states. It should be pulled from all.

Prince George county is largely African-American - I wonder if black preacher influenced the choice of this video.

They pull this video but won't pull the book with two mothers that promotes homosexuality to children.

'Doyle said the decision to pull the video is a “knee-jerk reaction to the activist community.”'

Is this moron even licenced? If so, the regulatory organization for psychotherapists in Maryland, if there is one, should take his licence away. Any film claiming people can change their sexual orientation -- even if it has other messages worth hearing -- does not belong in an educational environment, just as pictures of Adam and Eve cavorting around with T. Rex do not.

And this is being shown even in New York? Another example of how the US is in dire need of a genocide for stupid people.

I guess we should ban the book Fernando the Bull because it might influence children to speak with an accent?

I agree with James. Stop using stereotypes please. PG county is the wealthiest black majority county in the country.

You are behaving just as badly as Fred Phelps when you decide which religious beliefs are acceptable to you and then want to use the law to back you up.

As a gay Christian you often offend me and many others. You decided to run away rather than stay at home and fight for your rights. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater isn't a good solution.

Having not seen the film, none of us in my situation can really judge it. I suspect the major 'controversy' is that it mentions ex-gays and the related ideas about it. I can't say it promotes the ex gay movement anymore than I can claim it promotes the pro equality movement.

Frankly it sounds like just the right film to show to encourage discussion on bullying and stereotypes.

Ex-gay ministries are bullying programs that enable sociopathic pedopohiles to get their jollies bullying and torturing gay teenagers using GOD as a scapegoat
.
Perhaps they would be more accurately labeled 'Bullying Ministries'

I have nothing against rational religon. By rational, I mean faith which separates the spiritual realm from the material and does not impose itself on others. But fundamentalism occurs in all religions, not just Christianity. It is ridiculous and backwards in all of them.
