Well when the line of heteros applying for them gets good and long, I'll consider joining it.

Refusing to support civil unions gets us nothing; absolutely nothing.

Passing civil unions gets us the state rights & benefits of marriage available to those who can't wait for marriage equality. They also lay the groundwork for marriage equality in that state, as has been proven time & time again.

Btw, using your logic, you should be refusing any state marriage laws for same-sex couples as well because they don't provide federal benefits.

Why do you support 2nd class marriages?

Of course full marriage equality is the goal, but in some states that's not going to happen just yet.
NO ONE is forcing you to get a civil union, but there is no reason those who WANT or NEED the benefits a civil union can provide UNTIL we get marriage equality shouldn't be able to do so.
You're simply being selfish and attempting to dictate what legal unions people enter into. Sound familiar??
DOMA is not going away just section 5 and what benefits coming from it will be limited to marriage, not civil unions nor domestic partnerships
why do you think there so willing to give it to you, and if Rep.Carole Murray really did care she would be pushing for marriage equality.
Good acting Carole but like rev. Al would say we got's ya

Actually it's section 3 of DOMA being overturned, but I agree that once that happens then there will little reason (or effort) to pass civil unions.

In the meantime, keep in mind that the SCOTUS could rule in the Prop 8 case that any states which currently have civil unions have to recognize those unions as marriages instead. It's called the "8 state compromise" because of the 8 states which would be affected- IL, NJ, RI, DE, HI, CA, OR, & NV. Adding civil unions in Colorado would make it the "9 state compromise".

Yes, some are now offering civil unions in an attempt to stop marriage equality; they're as misguided as you. Civil unions are a proven stepping stone to marriage, as we've seen in all the other states that started with civil unions. They passed CUs because that's all they could pass at the time; now many of them have gone on to pass full marriage equality and the rest are actively working on it.

Colorado will be no different. Assuming the SCOTUS doesn't take the "8 state compromise" in the Prop 8 case, having civil unions in Colorado will demonstrate to those on the fence that recognizing same-sex couples doesn't make the sky fall, and it lays the groundwork for repealing their constitutional amendment in '14 or '16.

You DID realize Colorado has a constitutional ban on same-sex couples marrying? So the legislature CAN'T pass a marriage equality bill. Right now civil unions are the only option.

I'm not going to add anything new to this debate about CU, DP and Marriage Equality, but it is my opinion, should CU or DP ever come to the state of Missouri, my spouse and I would take it. No, it's not a perfect solution, or any solution at all. But what it is, is a stepping-stone. As soon as they are granted, there would be an immediate lawsuit by someone demonstrating that separate is not equal. And if someone else would rather wait for Marriage Equality, so be it. It is a choice for individual couples.

You actually added the most important point of this debate- the right to CHOOSE.

Unfortunately there are those among us who would deny you that right to choose just because THEY would never accept a civil union.
