No, irrelevant refers to the fact that SSM is a separate issue from polygamy, idiot.

seems you want more than that too..
I don't even want THAT much. I want to be able to ensure the security of my partner's future, like you can. I want to bolster our relationship against outside interference, like you can. I want to be able to do this without a STACK of contracts, each with their own legal fees, like you can. I want our bond to be recognized in any U.S. state that we may travel or move to, like yours is.

I want ONE spouse, just like you get. If you have one spouse, and your neighbor has ten, something may be drastically unequal there. They may be receiving LOADS of tax benefits that you don't get. They may be able to game the system in ways that you can't.

But if YOU have one spouse, AND I have one spouse, then we're at least equal. The gender of our spouses doesn't make us unequal.

Are you one of those people who demands that gay people seek a spouse of the opposite gender, to keep things equal? I hope you're not ALSO one of those people who rants about the "sanctity" of marriage, because... what a mess. How should I choose a person of the opposite gender for a spouse? I'm not at all interested in women, what standards should I use for choosing? Maybe you have a sister or a daughter that would enjoy being married to a gay man. Should I TELL her that I'm gay, or keep it a secret? Will she enjoy knowing that she can't please me, or will she be happier being kept in the dark? Should I just abandon my partner of 9 years, and hope that he also finds a woman he's not interested in?

You either have no idea about the needs of gay couples, or you couldn't care less. If you don't care, then I don't care about your opinion of me choosing a spouse who is COMPLETELY unsuited to me, and me to her. If you really cared about protecting marriage, you wouldn't suggest such sham, unhappy marriages.

Gay marriage would indeed be the end of adultery, because gay marriage would be the end of marriage.

Yet to homosexuals, anal sex makes perfect sense.
It makes perfect sense to a lot of straight people too.

"The Washington, D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign says it has spent $8 million to push for marriage equality for gays and lesbians..."
THIS IS THE BIG FALSE SCAM BY HOMOSEXUALS. Homosexuals already have marriage equality. Every person in the country is equally able to marry a person of the opposite sex.
No special treatment exceptions for a freak that wants to marry 10 people of the opposite sex, a freak that wants to marry his sister, a freak that wants to marry another guy, a freak that wants to marry a goat, etc.
Outlawing polygamy marriage, incest marriage, homosexual marriage, and bestiality marriage does not violate 'equality'.

In some states, gays can marry others of the same sex. Hope that really sticks in your craw.

Who's arguing against polygamy? Not me. The only problem I see with it is the legal quagmire that having more than one legal spouse entering and exiting a marriage would create. Once the legal structure for such relationships can be hammered out, what's the problem?

And irrelevant means "not relevant to", doesn't it? If it actually deflated an argument, it wouldn't be irrelevant, would it?

Gosh, for a practicing attorney, you don't seem to understand words very well, do you?

You can put ANY modifier in front of the term "civil rights" and they immediately become the same issue.

CIVIL means (basically) government (or non-military) based.

RIGHTS are governed and protected by the government.

Therefore, racial civil rights, gay civil rights, family civil rights, senior citizen civil rights, children's civil rights, women's civil rights.... ALL the same. ALL refer to rights and protections that are governed and protected by the government without regard to the particular flavor being discussed.

Are you STILL claiming that you're a practicing attorney, or have you just completely abandoned that charade? Having a degree in accounting, I've only taken a handful of law classes and it sure seems that I know a whole lot more about the law and civics than you do.... What kind of law did you say you practice again?

civil rights

n. those rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, the 13th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution, including the right to due process, equal treatment under the law of all people regarding enjoyment of life, liberty, property, and protection. Positive civil rights include the right to vote, the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a democratic society, such as equal access to public schools, recreation, transportation, public facilities, and housing, and equal and fair treatment by law enforcement and the courts.

Marriage rights do not exist; equal access to legal institutions is a right, however.

Since gay relationships are different....well...
