Are they charging the MS. Democrat candidate's gay lover with a hate crime? He killed a gay man because of his gayness. Well?

So how much time did they get? Why do they talk about the statement he made in court, and not mention how much time he got. I believe everyone is asked to make a statement when they are sentenced, should he have said... I'm glad I did it, rather than I'm sorry I did it.
