Personally, I don't expect anything from SCOTUS on Prop 8 or the DOMA cases until after the election.....ugh:(

FTA- "The Supreme Court has not announced any action with regards to appeals challenging Proposition 8 or the Defense of Marriage Act. They may be waiting until such time that all current cases can be lumped into one hearing" This "lumping" should not be construed to be the same as the gays "conflating".

DOMA and Prop 8 are totally different cases so they can't be heard in one hearing.

There's truly NO reason to hold off on Prop 8 because it is a different issue and because the ruling is narrowly confined to California, UNLESS they are looking at something like maybe Article 3 Standing.....but I seriously doubt that!!! With regards to the DOMA cases, they may simply be waiting to see if the Democrats regain control of the House and will repeal DOMA all together and then SCOTUS would be off the hook on this issue for a while!!!

They can't combine 2 different cases in one hearing- DOMA is about federal benefits. Prop 8 is about taking away existing rights.

So is this article's title totally misleading or did I miss where it said that they shot down a NOM appeal? I said that in the past they have, but if that's considered news, than so is President Lincoln being shot.

The Supreme Court of the United States The Supreme Court has announced a large number of the cases that they will be considering this upcoming term. Among those that they appear to not be taking up as of yet are any related to same-sex marriage. Typically, the Supreme Court of the United States takes up only a handful of the cases appealed to it. If they reject an appeal, that means that the lower courts’ rulings stand. The National Organization for Marriage appealed a lower court ruling regarding Maine’s campaign finance laws. NOM asked that the court reverse the lower court’s ruling that upheld Maine’s campaign finance laws. NOM argued that the laws imposed onerous burdens “on political committees advocating for or against candidates may be imposed on non-profit organizations speaking about ballot measures.” The lower court sided with the state. The Supreme Court had, in past cases, denied NOM’s requests to find laws requiring them to name their donors unconstitutional. The Supreme Court has not announced any action with regards to appeals challenging Proposition 8 or the Defense of Marriage Act. They may be waiting until such time that all current cases can be lumped into one hearing. That happened in the case of Brown v. Board of Education, et al. The Supreme Court took no action on the five cases until all of the ones lumped into Brown v. Board of Education were ready to be heard. You may also like -...."

eJohn- The entire center of the article is about NOM's appeal of the Maine campaign finance laws being rejected. I'm sorry if that isn't clear.

Sorry, but since Prop 8 concerns state law and DOMA federal, the two are dealing with entirely separate issues which cannot be combined. What I have heard, is that they may be waiting on one or more of the other DOMA cases to be certified before taking up that issue. The Gill/Commonwealth combo has no trial record and Windsor would make any of them who can rationalize constitutionality into DOMA look like Granny bashers. The most likely of the others is probably Gorlinski. They're probably holding off on Prop 8 to shoot those fireworks all at once.

Federal law trumps state law. That's what the civil war was all about. If the Feds say queers can't scam more welfare and benefits, so be it. What a few queers choose to do with each other and what queers care about is of less-than-zero benefit or importance to normal society. Why should the taxpayers waste billions on all these queers infesting the schools and other places queers know they can find a steady supply of child victims?

We actually don't know, but I wanted to at least offer a bit of a 'this happens' and offer what I know from what I've learned.

It says they asked for it to be thrown out and talks about why, but it still doesn't say anything about the court actually DOING it.... The rest of the article talks about PAST decisions against NOM, nothing current. Again, if that's news, that I've got a breaking news story for you--"George Washington Passes Away Quietly at His Beloved Mount Vernon Home"....
