This retired Sheriff might have won a case by SCOTUS, but that DOESN'T mean he will or these individuals will win here.......and good luck trying to Secede from the United States.........Texas has been trying for years and one can see just how much success they've had or the South for that matter during the Civil War!!!

These folks will NOT win nor will the State of Utah.......a State can NOT deny American Citizens their FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS which includes the right to marry the person of their choosing, NOT just because the person happens to be the opposite-sex!!!!

And yet again we do NOT live in a Theocracy and one's religious beliefs are IRRELEVANT to this issue!!!

Like all citizens, Mr. Mack should already be aware that in this country, our rights are not "God-given". For better or for worse, they are granted (and protected) by the Constitution.

The Constitution, not the Bible, is why we have the right to own guns, to live as free people, and to practice whatever religion (if any) we choose for ourselves.

Well, here in Pinal County, Arizona, where I live, our county sheriff, Sheriff Paul Babeu, is openly gay. I ran into him once by chance at my local post office and we had a nice chat and he seems like a nice guy. I was very surprised I ran into him.

We as a society do have restrictions perhaps someone loves underage individual but so far there is a law restricting access to children. But with today's anything is acceptable society I expect to hear some progressive liberal take up this cause as well.
We can all look forward to NAMBLA protest and parades not to mention Pedophiles of America Parades and protests.
LOL NAMBLA has been out of business for many years yet homophobes and bigots who cry "What about the children" all attempt to revive the organization. Stuck in another decade and century.

You speak of HARMING a child or young adolescent who can NOT give consent.......those people are known as PEDOPHILES and CHILD MOLESTERS.......they are NOT the same as Gays and Lesbians who are attracted to other consenting adults who are also Gay or Lesbian!!!

The ONLY idiots who mention NAMBLA are those who OBVIOUSLY don't know the difference between those willing to harm children and those who are interested in an adult who can consent!!!

By the way R1....how many nics are you going to use before you realize that we all KNOW who you are in these threads?

Openly gay, like swishy gay. Wow.

My image of a Sheriff from AZ is more hardened and weather-beaten character. Whisker's and a pair of pearl handled Colt's and jingles when he walks. Always there when you need him, yet deliver's harsh but fair punishment as he upholds the law. Squinting his eye's just enough to make you think twice about breaking Any law, lol as he drive's away in a Mustang...

That is fact and every word true.

But, of course this is not about children, is it.? It is about consenting unrelated single adults. What is your logic in banning adults from marrying the single unrelated adult of their choice? It's not a new concept, after all. Straight folks have been doing it forever.

Sure it is, but more accurately it's about restrictions. We have them, they apply equally to everyone in any given state. Look at your post, you pointed out restrictions on related adults and children. If your state doesn't meet your marital needs, move to one that does.

Mr Mack, like so many righteous others, the Constitution only matters when it suits their needs. If they would like, they could move to another country, or they could try to secede from the union.

The problem they have is that they are a small group of hateful people. They would need to convince many others that equal treatment of fellow citizens harms them in some way. It would need to harm them so much that they would give up all the benefits of being part of the US. Good luck with that, the clerks who were refusing the licenses in Utah gave in just for fear of losing a job.

And if the restrictions in your state don't suit your preference, move out. But be prepared to keep moving.

Wow! I haven't heard about Babeu since the scandal with his illegal Mexican lover. I didn't think he'd survive that. He's sheriff, now?

Apparently you are unaware of the status quo, when it comes to marriage to those who cannot otherwise too young to legally consent to the sex inherent in the contract. With parental and judicial consent to the marriage, there are states where you can play here comes the bride with a 14 year-old. There are even states where you get to skip the consent requirements if it's the child's second trip down the aisle or if the bride is pregnant. Even though the current laws don't always reflect it, the states do have a compelling interest in protecting minors, which would head any call for under-aged same sex marriages, which aren't in line with the current laws regarding opposite sex marriage, off at the pass. I'll bet you though you actually had a point, didn't you?

Does anyone else see the irony and hypocrisy?

Mack, former sheriff in Graham County, Ariz., created the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association about three years ago to "take back America county by county, state by state."
