God and Gays: The Rite to Bless Same-sex Unions

Jul 16, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Time

There is something by now familiar, even reassuring, about what happens in my church every third summer.

From the article:

" ... the central tenet of Christianity as it has come down to us is that we are to reach out when our instinct is to pull inward; to give when we want to take; to love when we are inclined to hate; to include when are tempted to exclude.... "

ďthe leaders of the Episcopal Church and similar bodies often donít seem to be offering anything you canít get from a purely secular liberalism.Ē

Bells and smells. Some folks need this and many Anglicans/Episcopalians outdo the Catholics in this area.

As a gay man and an atheist, I never feel uncomfortable going into an Anglican/Episcopalian church in an urban area (for a concert or event, for example). Less so even than going into a synagogue despite being raised a Jew.

Then why do you go to them?

Could it be that it i the only place in your area that perform certain concerts or 'events'?

We are not asking you to give up your free will or violate your conscience. By attending any event held in one of our churches you do so to satisfy yourself. However, don't forget that it is your action to gratify your pleasure not ours. Stand up for yourself and take responsibility for yours own actions.

As you stated:

"Bells and smells. Some folks need this....". I agree with you and would point out that some people love to play victim and whine.

From the article:- I like this

Given that sexual orientation is innate and that we are all, in theological terms, children of God, to deny access to some sacraments based on sexuality is as wrong as denying access to some sacraments based on race or gender. This is not about secular politics (though the secular political world is coming to share these views) but about the perennial human effort to follow the ancient commandment to love one another as ourselves.

ďThere is a significant and growing consensus among biblical scholars about the few biblical texts that are often referenced as the basis for condemning same-gender loving people of God. Contemporary biblical scholarship argues strongly against this condemnation and finds a much more significant Gospel message that supports the inclusion of LGBT persons into the full life and mission of the church.Ē(United Church of Christ.)

Then you haven't paid very careful attention to most of my writings.

In fact to claim that all gays don't believe in God is probably the dumbest thing you've ever written. Aside from your own name of course.

Considering the population of homosexuals is small compared to the general populus, and considering the fact that in my 3 years of delegation in this matter, most gay bloggers reject, defame, ridicule, or slander God and Jesus vehemently. A simple math equation would suggest a rather large number are anti-God, antichrist, let alone the defamation of the church. Sometimes I wonder if some were there at the time of crucifixion.
You projected yourself out of the pecking order of family and true marriage, defaming and brainwashing billions in the process.
You are the false prophet, we were warned.
Still denying reality and facts.

Typical.

Anglicans "outdo the Catholics in this area" because the Sarum Rite is closer to the Eastern Orthodox, for whom smells and bells (and handwaving and kissing cartoons) is about all they have to brag about.

"Sing unto the Lord a new song..." was kinda lost on all these guys.

I suspect God changed the channel somewhere around the 4th Century.

Excuse me, but I don't really understand your post: "Take responsibility for my own action..." What action? Attending a concert or organ recital? Responsibility for what? Are you saying I should not be in a church because I am a non-believer? Your post does not make sense to me - what am I missing here?

I just remember when I was living in Chicago that the high church Anglican church with a big gay congregations - Church of the Ascension - was black inside from all the incense. The Chicago version of "Smoky Mary's", I guess.

But I really think this sort of thing does fulfill an emotional need for some people.

Yeah. It so clouds and covers the simple, and dangerous, words of Yeshua that one is safe from ever having to follow them.

If you don't like the performance site then don't go there. Even you should understand that is purely your choice.

You may love X rated movies but you canít criticize the theaters that shows them if you buy the ticket to see the performance. That is called free will or just good old fashion freedom. Hypocrite!

By the way how can you be both a Jew and an atheist? Judaism is a religion that believes in one God and an atheist totally denies the existence of any god(s). Your claim is like saying: Iím a little pregnant or I am dead. You canít be a member of a religion and an atheist. You canít be both living and dead. Do you have a dictionary?

If I wanted to see a movie and it was only showing at a theater I did not care for, I would go to see it. I am not a Jew and an atheist simultaneously, please learn to read. I was raised Jewish and am a Jew as an ethnic identity. I do not observe religious rituals, pray or believe in a deity.

And by the way, in cases where religions do not conflict, it is very possible to belong to more than one. The Japanese have done this for over a thousand years (Buddhism and Shintoism).
