Supreme Court urged to support gay marriage limits

Jan 22, 2013 Full story: WTAX-AM Springfield 287

The Supreme Court was urged on Tuesday to uphold the constitutionality of two laws that define marriage as the union of a man and a woman, as it prepares to hear arguments in the historic same-sex marriage cases two months from now.

Not in the "Declaration", either. Check the wording closely. "Creator" is used. That's pure Deist, not Theist.
Even THAT slight usage was only to subvert the claim to the "divine right of kings" that christendom promulgated.
A Deist can be a theist fool.

So they trick THEMSELVES, is what you're saying now. ANOTHER contradiction. I recommend that you keep your story straight, if you want to appear credible (though it's far too late for that).
Maybe they ACTUALLY THINK these skinny girls ARE attractive, have you considered that? What's wrong with "skinny" (I notice you dropped the "ugly")? Most teenage boys will say that they find girls like CHEERLEADERS attractive. THAT is what makes them "fit in" better. How would claiming that an ugly person is attractive make someone "fit in"? Most gay people struggle with being outcasts. How would it help them "fit in" by being gay? You aren't making ANY sense.
You are NOW claiming that kids trick THEMSELVES (very different from being "evil" or "biological errors" or "indoctrinated") into liking someone that would only get them laughed at or beaten up, and that they do this to fit in.
Come on. You have GOT to be able to see how this makes NO sense, and how it goes in a COMPLETELY new direction from ANYTHING you've said so far.
<quoted text>
What is it about someone's upbringing that makes them gay? My dad was a safety supervisor at a metal mill, he excells at automotive work, construction, fishing and hunting. A real "man's man", as they say. My mom was a librarian/court clerk who taught me how to love books and learning, and not to believe wild stories without a thorough investigation. What is it they did wrong, do you suppose? They've modeled an ideal marriage (50 years last August!), and my dad had a real way with the ladies. Oh, and my brother, who was raised by the very same people, is NOT gay.
Have you checked into the upbringing of MANY gay people? What kind of research have you done on this, to arrive at your conclusion? How should parents CHANGE their parenting tactics, to AVOID having a gay child?
You must have a long list of comprehensive answers, since you sound like you think you're knowledgable about this subject.
I was using the arguement that they think skinny girls are attractive to point out that they can be tricked into believing someone is attractive. Gays don't think skinny girlrs are attractive because they are too sure they are gay because of severe delusions and indoctrinations, and a morbid sense of pride in being gay, and so therefore partly already feel they fit in. Maybe your brother is better than you indeed!

Spouting nonsense? Your husband is actually very ugly, and pretty stupid, you may think he is really sweet inside, but he actually has no backbone, is insecure and soppy! Oh you do hate to hear that! If he was attacked, I doubt you could picture him fighting back could you? Sucks do hear your little dreamboy a disgrace doesn't it?

I don't understand. Do these teenage boys actually FIND these girls attractive, which they hope proves the point that they can be tricked, or do they PRETEND to find them attractive, to prove this point? If they're pretending, it proves nothing. But if they actually find them attractive, then what proof do you have that they've been tricked? Have you ASKED them? Some people actually LIKE skinny people. Some people like FAT people. Everyone has something they like. Has EVERYONE been tricked?

I'm still wondering... where are you GETTING this information? Are these kids TELLING you this? Were you tricked YOURSELF once? And where are you getting your information on gay people? Have you RESEARCHED any gay people? Do you KNOW any actual gay people?

That is the most convoluted thing I've heard all day (but it's early). Gay men don't think ANY girls are attractive, because when we look at females, nothing happens. There's no "spark". No attraction. No one controls that "spark". No one can MAKE it happen if it doesn't happen on its own, and no one can make it disappear if it DOES happen. You can't just make it happen because you're "sure".

Don't you understand how many gay people struggle AGAINST being gay? Not everyone embraces it. Many spend YEARS wishing these feelings would go away. Many spend years living lives that don't suit them, only to finally have those lives collapse. My partner spent all his teen years praying to God that he wouldn't be gay. God didn't do anything about it. He's still gay, and he's MUCH happier now that he's accepted what his body has told him all along.

Your deep mischaracterizations of gay people suggest that you don't really KNOW any gay people. You don't seem to truly know anything about what we go through, or what it's like to be gay. Social ostracism is powerful. People lose their families. Parents kick their kids out of their homes. Friends and loved ones turn on them. They risk violence to themselves. Until recently, they couldn't marry or join the military. What makes you think someone is doing all this to "fit in"?

The pride we feel is not "morbid", it's exactly what ANYONE would feel in surviving an adolescence of hatred and hiding.
Largelanguage wrote:

I'm not impressed by your ability to RANK people as "better" or "worse" than one another. My brother is also heavily obese, and has a house in foreclosure, two failings that I avoided. You should avoid making judgments like that about people you've never met.

I have to say, though, I'm not surprised. Prejudice is common among those who have decided that they are against gay people. This is not a personality trait that you should encourage in yourself.

The reason why gay men find other men attractive is to help fufill their insecurities and find what they are missing in themselves within other men, a way to make themselves feel better. This is impossible to admire for a skinny girl with a self made sexual disorder. It is the way gays view the same sex that causes the disorder called homosexuality. And I'm certainly not interested in your guilt trip and pity parties. I bet even your low life trash of a human being-brother is better than you.

Wow. Now we know that you are attracted to women because of your insecurities over femininity and because you desire to have something you can't find within yourself.

And how do you know this? How many gay men have you asked? What kind of research have you conducted? How does any of this apply to gay people who strive to be straight?

I believe you have totally made this all up. Can you offer ANYTHING to demonstrate otherwise? What kind of experience or training have you had, to boost your credibility?

Considering the fact that the foremost medical and psychiatric authorities in the country have determined that homosexuality is NOT a "disorder", what in the WORLD would make me believe you?

Anyone who talks like that about people they've never met has some real problems. I wanted to have a rational, civil conversation with you about your points of view, and how you reached them, but you seem prefer to sling insults, change your story multiple times and in multiply contradictory ways, and make judgments about complete strangers. It's clear that rationality and civility played no part in how you reached your opinions.

I won't bother you again. Hate whoever you want, for whatever trivial or inexplicable reasons you like.

Good job of trying to help him overcome his irrational prejudices. Education only goes so far. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him think.

When he rejects the findings of years of research and clinical experience agreed upon by the scientific community to demonstrate being gay is a normal expression of being human for some, as well as the personal testimony of millions including those here, it becomes clear he is not ready to question the irrational prejudice he was taught as a child.

I'm on another thread dealing with the Jenkins Miller case. Straight Shooter is claiming sexual abuse of the little girl during a time when the HE HIMSELF says the accused abuser had no contact with the child.

And this man is threatening me with besmirching his professional reputation?

Well, I wouldn't want to be a menius to society. Whatever that is.

If you don't want to be gay, no one is forcing you.

But you sure aren't going to win by trying to force free citizens NOT to be what they are. You won't win with slander, or by calling your fellow citizens "perverts", simply because they're different from you.

Are we losing in the state-by-state legislation recognizing marriage equality? Looks pretty good from up here in Seattle.

Are we losing with Don't Ask, Don't Tell? Now they're applying that policy to dinosaurs and dodo birds. It's extinct.

Single gay people can adopt children in every state. Gay COUPLES can adopt in about half the states. Nations around the WORLD are recognizing marriage equality. They're dropping blood-donation bans. Sodomy laws are long gone. The Marines ordered recognition of same-sex spouses within on-base spousal clubs. Chic-Fil-A changed their tune. The Boy Scouts are coming around. Hate crime laws. Anti-discrimination laws. Corporate support. Religious support. Gay Republicans. Pride parades. Gays on TV & in the movies. Gay/straight alliance clubs in schools. I could GO ON.

I don't know what you think "winning" looks like, but you need to wipe the steam of hatred from your glasses, man. We have this thing LOCKED UP.

Agreed.

But what hurts the most is realizing the harm done by the prejudice they promote, as well as by the promotion of prejudice. Each prejudice we accept opens the door acceptance of all others.

"The divide of race has been America's constant curse. Each new wave of immigrants gives new targets to old prejudices. Prejudice and contempt, cloaked in the pretense of religious or political conviction, are no different. They have nearly destroyed us in the past. They plague us still. They fuel the fanaticism of terror. They torment the lives of millions in fractured nations around the world. These obsessions cripple both those who are hated and, of course, those who hate, robbing both of what they might become. Bill Clinton
