DOMA requires discrimination, in violation of the 5th amendment.
Well...the law is the law, you cant change the law just because it doesn't accommodate your chosen lifestyle. We don't like every law nor do we agree with every law but we have to abide by them for the good of the country!!

Nice try, that's not what the argument is...no one is saying it will harm opposite sex marriages.
It was your claim that marriage equality "weakens and destroys the country". Yet, your pejorative terminology fails to demonstrate how that would happen. If equal treatment for gay people does not harm marriage for straight people, and it doesn't, how could it destroy the country?

Your demeaning pejorative terminology and irrational fear of social destruction, fail to provide any legitimate governmental interest sufficient for denial of equal treatment as required by the constitution.

Laws must comply with the constitution to be valid. Laws that violate the constitution are bad for the country, not good for it. The founders knew majorities would try to restrict the equal rights of minorities, and that is why the gave us a constitution requiring equal treatment, with a judicial branch to enforce it.

"In the courtís final analysis, the governmentís only basis for supporting DOMA comes down to an apparent belief that the moral views of the majority may properly be enacted as the law of the land in regard to state-sanctioned same-sex marriage in disregard of the personal status and living conditions of a significant segment of our pluralistic society. Such a view is not consistent with the evidence or the law as embodied in the Fifth Amendment with respect to the thoughts expressed in this decision. The court has no doubt about its conclusion: DOMA deprives them of the equal protection of the law to which they are entitled."

Um...most of the framers were deeply religious men and they'd be turning in their graves just knowing what you people are trying to do to their beloved Constitution. If you consider the law invalid then take it to SCOTUS let them decide. Oh wait, its already heading that way and they'll bury this puppy once and for all.

Baker, burger flipper, or candlestick maker, he has no legitimate governmental interest sufficient for denial of equal treatment under the law as required by the constitution. All he has is pejorative terminology and irrational prejudice, and if religious, a few mistranslated verses contradicted by others, which have no valid claim to equal law.

Best to show the irrationality of the excuses rather than relying on the discrediting of the excuser, even when both are possible and valid. Discrediting the argument holds true no matter who is presenting it. And we know from history, literature, science, law, and should know from common sense, treating others as we would treat ourselves under the law harms no one, while discrimination and prejudice result in needless suffering and death.

Yes, the Supreme Court will be looking at some specific legal arguments. They may or may not make any sweeping decisions at this time. Time alone will tell. The arguments have yet to be presented. So far, the trend is; there is no legitimate governmental interest served by denial of equal treatment as required by the 5th and 14th amendments to the constitution.

You have not demonstrated any such interest. All you have demonstrated is pejorative terminology and irrational prejudice.

"Had those who drew and ratified the Due Process Clauses of the Fifth Amendment or the Fourteenth Amendment known the components of liberty in its manifold possibilities, they might have been more specific. They did not presume to have this insight. They knew times can blind us to certain truths and later generations can see that laws once thought necessary and proper in fact serve only to oppress. As the Constitution endures, persons in every generation can invoke its principles in their own search for greater freedom." (Justice Kennedy in Lawrence.)

Boo hoo, SORE LOSER, you can rant and rave but you will still have PRESIDENT BARRACK OBAMA until Jan. 2017 and there is not a thing you can do about it. So, settle down, buckle your seat belt and ENJOY THE RIDE.

Ah, I am already planning on spending all day Jan. 20 this year in front of my TV with coffee and pastries while ENJOYING his inauguration and the fine parties all that evening. What a sweet day that will be! Lovely.

Unfortunately, even that won't change their beliefs. I fear most who come here expressing anti-gay beliefs are only here to bash and have little possibility of considering the possibility the prejudice taught to them as a child might be invalid. Yet, with time and repetition, some are able to assimilate new and conflicting information, and realize they are only promoting needless, irrational harm. So while some are hopeless trolls, change is possible.

Happy New Year, baby! I was just thinking about you. A pal of mine, the one I baked the cactus cake for in October is having his annual AFTER Christmas party and asked me back then to do the cactus cake again for this Saturday. It seemed like a good idea on Oct. 2nd, but now I am sort of burned out! A promise is a promise, however.

How were YOUR holidays? Did you and your hubby have a great time? We sure did!

Best year to you..C.....

Who died and made you king of Topix? I have met several pals and gals on here whom I contact all the time, both in regular emails and on Topix itself. Actually I have even gotten friendly with some highly conservatives, who are INTELLIGENT, with whom I have had spirited conversations with.

If you are not interested, then WHY shove your nose into my personal posts? Are you really THAT bored and lonely? You are forbidden to read my posts from here on in, to save you time, or course.

I don't have a facebook account. Not interested enough in it. As Seth Myers said on Saturday Night Live. "facebook, a new an novel way to waste time."
