In Psychology, there is something called Projection (which leads to Objectification)--It is the projecting of One's own issues onto other people.
Fanatical Christians who constantly obsess over gay sex (to an extreme) are trying to avoid their own homoerotic tendencies (most likely out of unnecessary Guilt) by trying to destroy Outside of themselves which they feel guilty about Inside of themselves.
It doesn't work.
It never will.
Jesus was clear on this when he said, "Do not judge lest ye be judged."
Brilliant philosophy that hits the mark.
Jesus overwhlemingly emphasized for each of us to focus on our own business-- motes being what they are. As to dealing with fellow humans, he made it clear that no grounds exist for excluding anyone from the love and that judging reveal a hypocrit-- neighbors and stone casting being what they are.

Thank you for your well presented and true statements presented in love. Many people who have never actually read the Bible often confuse love with tolerance and adhere to a 'gospel according to opinion'. God is love but this is only one of His many attributes. He is also holy, just, jealous, truth, righte ous.In Matthew, Jesus states He did not come to bring peace but a sword. Truth divides just as surely as a sword does ....nations, people, families, marriages, etc.
Christians are also told to not waste effort with those who do not want to know truth.
The problem with both of your posts is that you leave NO ROOM for disagreement. You are right and others are wrong. Those who agree with your position on homosexuality are going to heaven, and the rest of us aren't. I just don't understand that narrow view.

I am a Christian...and I'm gay. <gasp!> The amount of truth we would agree on would be considerable and we could have some wonderful discussions about our mutual journeys with Christ. However, because of this ONE issue, I would not be welcomed as a "true" member of your family.

It's very sad. But so glad you could justify this division and rejection with a quote from Jesus about the sword.(Again, can't say that I agree with the context, given the rest of the Bible's call for unity in love)

The Bible doesn't back up your perception of why S&G was destroyed. What do you do with Jesus' statement about the reason for the cities' destruction? What do you do with Exekiel's explanation?(cf: Ezekiel 16:48-49)
There *WAS* a time when some Christians believed that being black was the mark of Cain and a curse.(I know, I was raised in Birmingham, Alabama in the 60s) They used the Bible to "back up" their convictions and justify their prejudice and discrimination.
Culture changed, society grew...and we see the Scriputures with renewed vision.
Apartheid in South Africa was based solely upon the skin color Black being the mark of Cain. The Bible also condones Slavery. Hate has used the Bible more effectively than Love ever has. It has more hat than love - look at all the blood, genocide, and murder in the OT... That is a Book of Love?

Jeffs and his followers are NOT Mormons. The original intention of the early Latter Day Saints was to care for women with no other person to help them SURVIVE. Being a Mormon in those days was dangerous enough without being a female Mormon with no male in the house to help protect them and care for them. The practice was dropped by the Saints when it became apparent and neccesary to adhere to the laws of the land. Not God's laws, man's.How many wives did all those famous men of the Bible have?
Sorry, guys, didn't mean to butt in on an interesting conversation but stupidity required an answer.

When families visit New Orleans, it has always been up to the parents to decide if they want to expose their kids to Mardi Gras, and if so, how much of it. Now, this event does exhibit more leather wear than Mardi Gras, but the average amount of exposed skin is about the same. Both events have a range of behavior on display, but both localize the most extreme behavior away from where tourist families congregate.
The ad is deliberately provocative, but many TV ads are equally provocative. Get over it.

Two people reading the Bible yields two interpretations. This is where study with scholars can illuminate the sword and help one determine which side of it to be on. Where you see a God with attributes like jealous and righteous, I see those characteristics left behind in the primitive Old Testament.

Furthermore, Jesus considers these characteristics to be human weakness rooted in fear and lack of humility respectively that need to be overcome and showed us exactly how to do just that. I noticed that those who have largely overcome this xenophobia and arrogance do not subscribe to the homophobic notion that homosexuality is sin. They are also very busy seeing that their house remains in order knowing that the best message is the one lived, leaving who the message is intended for to God since only God knows the heart of anyone.

See, this kind of crap really pisses me off. Who the hell are you, or anyone else, to judge others?

It would seem that you have a special love of Old Testament Hebrew law. In the list of "abominations" you apparently skimmed, did you happen to notice the part about Jews eating meals with Egyptians? How about touching the skin of a pig? If this set of rules is how you want to live your life, that's fine; call yourself a Jew and be done with it.

If, on the other hand, you would like to be a Christian, then I believe the New Covenant is where you want to start. No one, not even Gentiles, are excluded from the Kingdom of God; everyone who believes has a place. No exceptions.

And who was it that Jesus spent his time with? Who did he feel was most in need of compassion, not judgment? Those people whom society, in its arrogance, have labeled and judged. If you really intend to live a life striving to exhibit "Christ-like" behavior, try emulating Christ, not the Pharasies.

As as far as "sin" is concerned, like pregnancy, there are no "levels" of it; it's "either/or". You sin or you don't. And since we all sin, for you to try and make you own sin out to be something "better" than another's, is a hypocrisy of the highest order.

So put that rock down; he who is without sin is the only one who has a right to throw it. The likes of us, with our glass houses, should be ashamed to even consider it.

Many good points made here. The quote is taken out of context. We can know this by exactly by what you point to-- that it doesn't fit the rest. It is necessary to understand the whole in order to understand any one part. Division and rejection are the tools of someone who's belief is foundering-- doesn't matter what kind of belief it is-- religious, political, etc. It is an indication the belief is in need of repair and the wise would heed that call.

I made the comparison with Mardi Gras to make a point which I didn't feel needed any hammering, but since many Americans are so set in their own little viewpoints, I'll drive the nail a little further:
Mardi Gras (french for 'fat tuesday')is a day in the Christian Liturgical Calendar, the last day of Carneval (goodbye meat), the next day being Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
Mardi Gras has long been a festive holy day, as has all of Carneval. It has become much more commercial, and much less of a Christian holiday, as has Christmas. Easter has been the most important holy day throughout most of the history of Christianity, but modern Christians hardly notice it. Most Christians would do well do remind themselves of this instead of spewing hatred for anyone who doesn't behave as they do.

I don't understande why anyone would condone lewd behavior. It has nothing to do with Homosexuality or Heterosexuality. It just seems that everytime I read an article on a gay pride activity, there is some sort of an uproar about lewd behavior.

If it is true that San Francisco suspends local ordinances for this parade, doesn't that speak volumes about the type of behavior that is occurring?

Mardi Gras and Spring Break are the same types of activities, and they should be treated similarly. We shouldn't be suspending laws for any group.

Secondly, defacing religous items is obviously offensive. I don't think this discussion would be limited to a chat page if the item in question was the Koran. It would be national news, and Nancy Pelosi would be addressing it more sternly.

If the religous right had an ad with 12 AIDS patients pictures on it, and the caption below it read "Homosexuality....ain't it great". I'd say we would want it brought down. I know that I wouldn't want it displayed because it would be coarse and inconsiderate.

It just seems that the left wants tolerance and consideration of everything except the things that disagree with them.

My two cents.

When I said use God's Word as a guide, the meaning was pretty deep. Satan takes things out of context the same way you did. Think for yourself simply meant to realize the truth, and don't blindly follow any or every thing that is opposed in some fashion to God's Word simply because you don't want Jesus Christ to be your Lord.
You purported to make my mind up for me and said, "think like me or you'll be so damn sorry you didn't." Wasn't sure if you were trying to put words in my mouth or shove your words down my throat. Oh wait, your position isn't "religious", so you're automatically granted an exemption from ever being guilty of trying to convert someone to your way of thinking. Lest I digress too far from how you made my mind up for me, on a simple level, you're correct. Ask the multitudes who perished in the flood during Noah's time. Notwithstanding, I would refrain from utilizing profanity, and I wouldn't want you to think like "me", but I would recommend you have a little mercy regarding the One who died to give YOU mercy.
