Russia’s Anti-Gay Laws: The Politics and Consequences of a Moral Panic

There are 11 comments on the thedisorderofthings.com story from Jun 23, 2013, titled Russia’s Anti-Gay Laws: The Politics and Consequences of a Moral Panic. In it, thedisorderofthings.com reports that:

The issue of LGBT rights in Russia first properly came to mainstream international attention in March 2012, when the St Petersburg Duma passed a law prohibiting “public acts aimed at the propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexualism and transgenderism amongst minors“. The law provoked an international outcry, including calls for tourists to boycott St Petersburg, sister-cities to consider cut off ties with Russia’s “window on Europe”, and condemnation from the EU, with the European Parliament passing a resolution noting that it was “gravely concerned by developments which restrict freedom of expression and assembly on the basis of misconceptions about homosexuality and transgenderism” and calling on Russia and other countries considering the adoption of similar legislation to “demonstrate, and ensure respect for, the principle of non-discrimination”.

The gay-hating laws in Russia once again prove the dangers of theocracy. Russian christians have done what American christians wish they could do and have tried but failed. Russians have been so used to knuckling under to a dictatorship that they went along with the corrupt law.

And in a weekend, Rick in Kansas has posted more useful items than that fucking bullshit "roboblogger" has in a year.

Putin is just another in a long list of despotic rulers of Russia. Russia cannot seem to escape it's past.

Pity the poor Russian people.......

Honestly, I think of it as quite similar to Nazi Germany. The common reaction to such a statement is to presume comparison to Hitler's mass murder; that's not the point at all, in this case. I'm talking about the obsessive hatred for zero reason, the obsessive laws for zero reason, the absolute and unarguably harassment of a minority, and the shockingly antichrist-like shit-for-brains attitude of the antigay in Russia that they have any authority to do this, or have proven anything whatsoever -- except that they're walking, talking f*ckups. Seriously.

I'm amazed and I have to laugh really hard that any of these groups repeatedly act as if they are implicitly demanding respect. I spit and I shit in their faces and I will show them *zero* respect, ever, for this type of demonic, hateful behavior. They can choke on my shit before they will get an ounce of respect; it's the one thing they are implicitly and repetitively demanding on multiple levels (as a component of their own claims that the gay and the pro-gay deserve none) and it's the VERY thing that is, on a deep psychological level, sending them into a rage: the fact that they can't get respect for what they do. For me personally, it is the last, the very last thing I will ever give them a shred of.

Vis-a-vis my point above, see the post directly above. Whether this is trolling, whether it's serious, whether it's a joke, doesn't matter: The tack it's taking is that this is *respectable*, and the pro-gay continue to shit in the faces of the antigay when they REFUSE to accord what the antigay do one atom of respect.

This post, even if it's a troll, could have taken any of a number of tacks: Note carefully the tack it takes -- an insistence that this is *respectable*.

I applaud the pro-gay eternally for their blanket refusal to budge on this. It's just about the only thing they won't budge on -- and think about it: THAT IS WHY the pro-gay and the antigay are having such a long, long, drawn-out, knock-down-drag-out fight. It's why this is going to last, possibly, for decades, because I know in my gut the pro-gay will never, never concede that there is an ounce of respectability in what the antigay do.

Bravo, bravo, bravo.

Move there if you like it so much.

Racists, gay haters and fascists are quite welcome in Russia.

Rick has a brain but roboblogger was not programmed very well. It thinks anything with the letters "gay" in sequence pertains to us!

Your name isn't Boris and I'll bet you don't even know where the city of Perm is. You probably chose it because it rhymed with "sperm."

It's not just things containing the word "gay" that get posted here. Things involving crimes perpetrated by heterosexual pedophiles get posted in the gay forum. The "program" was obviously written by an idiot who falsely conflates LGBTQ with being a pedophile.

Meanwhile MANY things with the word "christian" DO NOT get posted in the christian forum. Like Rick, I'm forced to manually post stories in the christian forum that are relevant to that group (e.g. news that christian singer Tim Lambesis hired a hitman to murder his wife).
