The church admits there is still no scientific evidence as to the cause of sexual orientation. So... then just maybe (likely) Bishops... it is inborn..a gift from God. There is still no scientific evidence for resurrection either folks. If you are treating people different and often condemning them for how God made them, you are in some BIG trouble with the Lord. Pray about that!

Different bag on the outside, yet still the same old POOP on the inside of the bag. When the POPE and the BISHOPS stop sticking their heads into the sand, and realize that the church needs to CHANGE, then maybe you will see some of the people that they have driven away come back. This is not just for gays, but divorce couples, and woman who had abortions. In my 54 years, I know LOVE and Hate when I see it, and this is not the Love that Christ meant.

It's possible to be a good Roman Catholic and place your faith in the mystical, transcending truths and symbols of the church, without accepting the inherently contradictory dogma of the bishops and pope. Interpreting Christian teachings spiritually, rather than literally avoids painting oneself into an orthodox corner, as the Church has done for about 1,700 years or more. Mystical practices, like praying the meditative Rosary and veneration of Mary and the Saints connects Romans Catholics to our 'secular' and pagan roots, which esteem the Divine Feminine and Love Mother Earth. The macho cartel which directs Rome will not last forever, grazie Madonna. To despise gays is to despise women, indirectly, the veiled misogyny the church forever denies. Try reading Bishop John Shelby Sprong's book, “Why Christianity must change or die” for an enlightened vision of where faith might take us in the non-homophobic future: The Bishops' raison d'etre is to defend the status quo. New times require new mythologies and new hope. If the Bishops don't change, folks will eventually desert them -- Europe is case-in-point.

So what's new here?
Gays are still not accepted as God made us. I remember almost saying I was gay one day from the pulpit.
What a furor that would have caused. Not being able to sincerely be myself I joined an independent Catholic Church where I can happily carry out proclaiming the Love of Christ. The Roman Church has a long way to go with this. But the hypocrisy continues with so many of the clergy being gay, but afraid of losing their livelihood, and feeling no option but to stay. Well, at least now they may be able to reveal their truth to a "small group". Ha, Ha

Amen and amen. What is a brilliant person like you doing on Topix? Among the ignorant, hateful posters who frequent these threads, you are a light shining in the darkness. Thank you.

Love the sinner - hate the sin - So what's the big deal. The Roman Catholic Church has 1.1 billion members - if you don't like what they teach go to the Episcopal Church - I understand they have plenty of empty seats.

You could have stayed - you could have been celibate - Gay priests can stay in the Catholic Church - they just can't be practicing homosexuals

Nothing good will ever come out of promiscuous free sex behavior. Unprincipled love was not created by God it was created by Satan and man, and it is the origin of the fall. Homosexual acts and promiscuity are no more than horrible choices by unprincipled people. These people are controlled by their body’s desire not their minds desire. They are utterly and completely out of sync with universal spiritual law and they are lost and confused souls.

The only thing religious leaders should be teaching to these confused people and their confused facilitators are that this behavior did not come from God and it must stop. If they cannot do that and do it clearly then God needs your support elsewhere.

I guess I am a sinner then! I am sure your not? Look in the mirror my perfect friend! Loving another person is such a sin and of course same sex marrige would ruin our world as we know it. Its amazing how hating people can be a priority to church's and governments while wars rage on! As long as you keep hating people make sure you repent EVERY week on Sunday! It will be all good in the end.

As a Roman Carholic (and I assume you are) you should know the Truth never changes - Spong is an Episcopalian and his teachings are not recognized by Roman - especially since his teachings are quite heretical - modernism is a heresy - Earth does not rule heaven, heaven rules earth.

For some reason if your gay its only about sex. Straight people don't realize that its all about love not sex. But getting educated about a subject like gay people is not a priority--hating us is!

If you don't like same sex marriage, don't marry someone of the same sex. It's that simple.

NO--its easier to hate people because they are different. Because they go to church and repent every week they can HATE!!! For some reason these people feel as though hate is "OK" in the name of Christ. Since they are of course always right--just read the bible--it tells you so! LOL

It is not living a lie - where do you see that? You admit you are homosexual and you promise never to sin again (commit a homosexual act)- kind of like an alcoholic staying dry - you know you are an alcoholic but you don't drink - doesn't cure you - you are still an alcoholic but you don't drink - there is no lie here - you just don't commit the sin. You can't help what you are but you can stop the behavior - read it again: love the sinner, hate the sin.
