from Newms360:

"A South Carolina judge on Jan. 23 issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the national church from using the name or seal of the diocese ...

"'We believe what the judge has said is what we have been saying for quite some time,' said Jim Lewis, a top aide to Bishop Mark Lawrence.

"'The Episcopal Church is more than free to establish a new diocese in South Carolina,' Lewis said.'What the ruling says, though, is that they can’t do that and claim to be us.'"

As I understand the structure of TEC, I believe that the national organization always owns all the buildings, structures, land, and things, so that a local church cannot secede.

The TEC structure is opposite nealy all other Protestant churches in the U.S. where each local congregation owns the buildings, structures, land, and things, and where each individual church is free to associate with any national body they wish to.

I've attended Episcopal churches over the years from time to time, but have always found their style of worship much too "Roman Catholic-like" to suit my Lutheran tastes.

In a way, just as the Early Church under the leadership of Peter required a certain amount of recognition of common property, The Episcopal Church requires acknowledgment of an "ownership" held in trust by the entirety of the Church, even though the local Diocese holds named property and accounts in a local registry of ownership.

Much of its tradition can be attributed to a centuries-long alignment and affiliation with Roman Catholicism. At the request of the King of Britain in about 320 A.D., the Romans began sending envoy priests to help with the further establishment of Roman Church practice. Formal Roman inclusion came at about 500-600 A.D.

However, Tertullian, Origen and others wrote of the Missionary establishment of the Early Church in Britain long before 300 A.D. and actually before the Church was established under the papacy in Rome.

In fact, it is generally believed that a Missionary group including Joseph of Arimathea and an entourage of the original disciples of Jesus came to Britain in the first 50 years of Christianity, successfully spreading the Gospel. This, including the remnants of this Apostolic Tradition from the Early Church, formed the Church of Britain from which the King appealed to the pope for support.

The Church of England is therefore every bit as old and spiritually original in its Tradition of Christendom as is the Roman Church. This fact has always stuck in the craw of the papal Magisterium.

Though very formal and "Roman" in most places, The Episcopal Church also contains a tradition of less formal practice known as the "Low" Church. In these parishes, the membership thrives in a much less formal setting and practice, often avoiding the use of "bells and smells" that are characteristics of the "High" Church services.

I prefer the "Low" Church practice, finding it more akin to the service and Tradition of the Early Church. We do use the Book of Common Prayer. We do have music and use the Hymnal. We have formal services and serve Communion through a ritual Eucharist.

Even so, the priest has some latitude as to how and when and if ritual practices are conducted, even as guided by the local bishop. At this point in the evolution of Church practice and general belief, The Episcopal Church has strongly moved toward the acceptance of women at all levels of leadership. The acceptance of Gays is also approved, much to the consternation of many in the wider Anglican Communion.

These modifications to Tradition are in keeping with the Teachings of Christ Jesus. They are a strong redoubling of the appeal to the Spirit and Apostolic Traditions of the Early Church. The work in this direction is controversial, upsetting to many and very fluid in its continuing adaptations.

There are many who cannot understand and have chosen to depart, rather than fully face and accept the very Teachings that were given to us by Christ Jesus. Such acceptance, for some, is a very bitter pill of self-reflection entailing an admission of long-held traditions of hypocritical and zealous bigotry.

Light, Love, Life and Time, with the help of the Holy Spirit will see us through these difficulties and, though smaller in membership for a time, will result in a much stronger core of faith and spiritual practice in The Episcopal Church.

Maybe you should start reading these stories with your "other" end.

"A South Carolina judge on Jan. 23 issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the national church from using the name or seal of the diocese ..."

According to the judge, TEC is an ecclesiastical identity thief.

There are many who fully understand and have chosen to depart rather than fully face and accept the perverted teachings that TEC claims to be from Jesus.

Jesus strengthened the command on adultery. Not even allowing lustful thoughts.

Jesus strengthened the command on murder. Not even allowing for anger with another.

Why do you think Jesus would allow man to lie with man when it was NEVER allowed before?

I sure will be glad when you understand that JESUS commanded...do not get divorced. How many times for you?

So where can I find the chapter and verse for a quote that Jesus never actually said?

Been married to the same (one and only) WOMAN for many, many years. Never been divorced so perhaps you should try another avenue.

Perhaps you're confusing what Jesus said with the chorus of a song from the 60s: "Love the one you're with"?

The verses apply to men and women in marriage, not "significant others".

Now you get it!
.
When Jesus strengthened HIS command on adultery for straighties; HE also exempted 'from' adultery; men who have no natural attraction to women:
.
++++++++++
Matthew 19:9> "And I say vnto you, Whosoeuer shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away, doth commit adultery."
.
Matthew 19:10> ¶ His disciples say vnto him, "If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marrie."
.
Matthew 19:11> But hee said vnto them, "All men cannot receiue this saying, saue they to whom it is giuen."
.
Matthew 19:12> "For there are some Eunuches, which were so borne from their mothers wombe: and there are some Eunuches, which were made Eunuches of men: and there be Eunuches, which haue made themselues Eunuches for the kingdome of heauens sake. He that is able to receiue it, let him receiue it."

Here is GOD's most detailed account of marriage in the entire Bible:
.
++++++++++
1 Samuel 18 :1> And it came to passe when hee made an ende of speaking vnto Saul, that the soule of Ionathan was knit with the soule of Dauid, and Ionathan loued him as his owne soule.
.
1 Samuel 18:3> Then Ionathan and Dauid made a couenant, because he loued him as his owne soule.
.
1 Samuel 18:4> And Ionathan stript himselfe of the robe that was vpon him, and gaue it to Dauid, and his garments, euen to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
.
1 Samuel 20:41> And assoone as the ladde was gone, Dauid arose out of a place toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himselfe three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, vntill Dauid exceeded.
.
1 Samuel 20:42> And Ionathan said to Dauid, Goe in peace, forasmuch as wee haue sworne both of vs in the Name of the Lord, saying; The Lord be betweene me and thee, and betweene my seede and thy seede for euer. And hee arose, and departed: and Ionathan went into the citie.
.
2 Samuel 1:25> How are the mightie fallen in the midst of the battell! O Ionathan, thou wast slaine in thine high places.
.
2 Samuel 1:26> I am distressed for thee, my brother Ionathan, very pleasant hast thou beene vnto mee: thy loue to mee was wonderfull, passing the loue of women.

Not according to Rabbi Israel Stein (retired) who said:

1 Sam 18:4: the Hebrew "arum" or naked does not appear in the text; if Jonathan was naked, the Hebrew would definitively say so.

1 Sam 20: 41-42: David “exceeded uncontrollably” refers to weeping; they were crying, and their friendship was pledged to last even unto the lives of their respective children (seed).

Spilling seed w/o any procreation breaks the commandment to be fruitful and multiply; being gay also negates this commandment, hence the prohibition in Lev 18: 22.

David was unabashedly heterosexual in his pursuit of Bathsheba; David was accused by the prophet Nathan of both murder and adultery, but never homosexuality.

The Bible paints saints warts and all, so why would it hide a homosexual relationship between David and Jonathan? Then again, for some, why is every relationship between 2 men or 2 women always sexual?

“People with an agenda say what they want to say, but opinions should be based on fact, not an agenda,” said Stein.
