If not for longstanding allegations of hostility towards journalists, certainly the raging homophobia spewing from the top of the government totem pole thing would do the trick.

We really do need to stop sending aid to these third-world countries
.
The first time we do it the recipients show appreciation
.
The second time we do it the recipients show anticipation
.
The third time we do it the recipients show expectation
.
The fourth time we do it the recipients show entitlement
.
The fifth time we do it the recipients become dependent and arrogant towards their new sugar daddies; and start threatening to lock us up in their women's prison
.
Stop the aid
.
Free the women

it amazes me how he condemns gays ,but half the guys in gambia walk around holding hands ,first time i went there me and my friend found it amusing ,thinking that these guys were gay ,only later did we find out that they was;nt it just how things are in gambia ,although we did'nt see any females walking around hand in hand .people are just people at the end of the day ,being gay does,nt make you a bad person ,there is a lot worse going on with peole then being gay ,some are murderers ,some are theives ,some are peadophiles ,is jammeh telling people like that to keep away from gambia ,like he;s condeming gay people no he is;nt is he .

Scumbag Jammeh (sorry I cant refer to him as president, just too poor of an excuse for one)can say all he wants. Truth be he wont be there in 10 years. Gambia is sick of his treachery and lies, he will soon be assented or ran out of the country! This man has a Million(S) of dollar mansion in the US, Maryland yet his country is the poorest it has ever been! Quit leisuring yourself and talking crack me up lies and care for your people. Who cares about gays when your country is in such a poor state!

Unfortunately, this statement is just tuning a fair amount of homophobia already present in attitudes in the gambia (or anywhere for that matter..)so sadly he may get support for this view..
similar to how the Germans got away with persecuting the Jews in Poland..
when the general population don't much approve of a certain group of people anyway ,it's easy for a leader to rabble rouse to drive them out..

Jammeh seems to be deeply misinformed.
He seems to be confusing gays with pedophiles.

There is a difference, and there is a problem in the Gambia with pedophilia.

His ant-gay statements just highlight his ignorance.

Instead of lambasting gays he needs to focus on the economy. How he can create the changes in the Gambia where his people do not have to sell their bodies to tourists.

In a country where you have just 20% unemployment it is inevitable that you will have some young hetrosexual men prostituting themselves with homosexual men.

In the same way that you have young hetrosexual prostituting themselves with elderly female tourists for money.

What Jammeh needs to do is consider how he can create jobs for his people, at the moment there are many who are hungry, they do not know where the next meal is coming from.

So Jammeh, forget the rabble rousing and the threats, focus on why young gambian people, men and women are so desperate for money they are selling their bodies to dirty old perverts, male and female.

it is everyones choice to be whom ever they want to be in life ,and we dont always have to agree on how anyone live their lives but jammeh 'im not sure you know how he had 9 prisoners executed last yr and was intending to execute another 40 ,when they had not had a proper trail etc ,it was only the intervention of ammnesty international and other world leaders that prevented the further executions ,also he is just as corrupt as the previous president that he overthrew, when i first went to gambia in 1999 everyone was saying what a good president he was doing so much for gambians at first ,by the time i went back 4 yrs later, there was unrest amongst the gambian people ,they saw he had changed the money that he had ,the mansion houses the planes the fancy big cars etc etc ,the more he got the more gambians started going without ,yes i will agree he has done some good things lately ,new hospitals ,immunization for the children ,a womens farming coop ,things like this are needed in gambia ,but then you have the other darker side of jammeh ,who inprisons anyone that disagrees with him ,and calls it treason ,closes newspapers and radio stations down that report against him ,one of the nine that was executed last year was a senegalese woman who'd killed her abusive husband ,there was also another senegalese who was executed ,which caused even more problems between the 2 countries ,the list can go on and on msunel ,most gambians are scared to oppose him even to say one bad word against him or even vote against him in elections ,he thinks he has the cure for aids that came to him in a dream ,that it is cured by herbs i believe the one hospital he opened was for aids patients ,but only if they take up his so called cure ,which has never been proved would help anyone ,please dont be taken by this man msunel ,look into his past as a president ,many of us before on here have said he is another despot dictator who is running his country along with it's people into the ground and will kill his people with starvation .
