Small potatoes. If the producers want to make a splash with the show, they'll have to get the Pope--or at least the Bishop of New York--to issue a prohibition to all Roman Catholics. Concerned Women of America? Phyllis Schlafly? Nobody's concerned.

"Concerned Women for America".....

I wonder how many of them secretly wish they could call themselves what they really are, "Nosy Bitches That Can't Mind Their Own Business"???

Or maybe, "Women Who Would Be Politicians If Their Husbands Would Let Them Out of the Kitchen Now and Then."

Or, perhaps the short and simple approach is best, "Women Who Are Afraid of Everything."

The best is, if the Pope or the Bishop of New York DID such a thing, viewership of the show would skyrocket.

Speaking of the pope, did you hear that Pope Francis is offering indulgences ? I thought that idea died 400 years ago. I thought the story was a joke when I read it a few days ago, but apparently not.

He's SELLING them now, in a manner of speaking. The concept is RIDICULOUS, and anti-Christian, because: 1. There is NO SUCH THING as "Purgatory", and 2. According to any denomination of Christianity, you CANNOT "BUY" your way in or out of anything.

This whole concept is one of the things that infuriated the Protestant leaders, Martin Luther AND others, so much.

The whole concept is deeply offensive and VERY ANTI-CHRISTIAN.

If he wants to reach way back in roman catholic history and bring back something from many hundreds of years ago, let him bring back the tradition of a married Roman Catholic clergy. It's certainly within his power to do with a mere say so.

The christian religion is nothing more than a market place of snake oil. Of course almost all modern religions are, not going to ignore that fact, but the christian churches are no less.

From what I read, from general news sources, is that Pope Francis is giving people "indulgences" (one of the main points of contention in the Protestant reformation), by offering a purgatory-eliminating Plenary Indulgence to anyone who follow his tweets or a live feed of World Youth Day, which kicks off July 23rd in Rio.

You CAN'T make this stuff up !

IF this is true, it's RIDICULOUS, and is in DIRECT OPPOSITION TO the basic tenet of Christianity.

The "grating of indulgences" is STILL going on in the RCC ???!!!

from TIME magazine:

"According to church teaching, Catholics who confess their sins are forgiven and therefore released from the eternal or spiritual punishment of damnation. An indulgence is designed to remove the “temporal” punishment of sin that may remain – the consequence of the wrongdoing that might have disrupted the sinner’s relationships with others.

"Famously, Martin Luther’s opposition to the church’s practice of selling indulgences inspired him to launch the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s. He was excommunicated, and the practice of buying and selling indulgences has been illegal since 1562 Council of Trent, but the granting of them has continued."

While theologically primitive and anachronistic, none of the conditions mentioned in the first link constitute "selling" anything, except perhaps the RC party line.

If there are ANY "benefits" to plenary indulgences, they are found in fulfillment of the conditions themselves. Mostly though, they are just a loyalty exercise to RC-ism.
