I am looking forward to hearing just what "irreparable harm" he asserts will occur.

Bigots have terribly fragile egos. That's the only thing that would be harmed should equal application of the law be permitted.

from the article, "The state, in its legal filing Friday, contended that it would be wrong for a lower-court judge to reverse policy made by lawmakers."

OMG!!!!*WHY* do we have SO MANY IDIOTS in government that don't understand BASIC 8th GRADE CIVICS????

It's the JOB of the judiciary to reverse policy made by lawmakers if the laws are unconstitutional!!!

SO frustrating....

They haven't taught basic civics in grade school, jr. high school, nor high school in DECADES. The only way I got a basic education in how the federal government and state governments work was by taking elective courses in those subjects in college.

And although I consider myself more knowledgeable in those subjects than the average person, I was very surprised to learn just recently how the state legislature here is organized.

They just don't teach it anymore. So how are we supposed to have an informed electorate to make informed and wise decisions when they step into the voting booth and elect these BUMS ?!

"Irreparable harm"?

Seriously??

What possible harm would come to the state by allowing same-sex couples to marry & get federal benefits? Especially considering they already supposedly get all the rights & benefits at the state level with their civil unions.

Poor Christie; he actually believes pandering to the anti-gays will win him the GOPasaur nomination in '16.

Yep! If they didn't hate him before, they hated him after he selfishly met with Obama after Hurricane Sandy and blatantly handed the previously slam-dunk Republican presidential victory to Obama last year.

DAMN him!!! We HATE him, don't we????

I know!! How strange is it that we want to be treated equally by the governments our tax dollars support. Totally strange, for sure.

Most people unfortunately don't believe in equality nor support it. If they did, we wouldn't be having this civil rights struggle for so many decades.

You freaks don't want to be treated equally, you want to be treated special.
You've just proven that you don't have a freaking clue about any of this.

"Special" is when one group is given rights that are denied to others. Like heterosexuals being given legal recognitions for their marriages, while same-sex couples are told their marriages are not legal.

Nope, I simply demand my marriage be treated the same by the state & federal govt as all other marriages.

Well, I was hoping someone would beat me to it, but did he really use the words "highest court weighing in"?

California had domestic partnerships, but the prop 8 trials showed separate could never be equal. It always demeans those denied equal protections under the same laws:

"Proposition 8 is unconstitutional under both the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution." http://www.afer.org/our-work/case-timeline/

"Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples. Because California has no interest in discriminating against gay men and lesbians, and because Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis, the court concludes that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional."

"Special" were the educational classes you attended to make it as far as junior high.
