GOP Challenger Apparently Topples Gay Marriage Politician

There are 7 comments on the www.southfloridagaynews.com story from Sep 26, 2012, titled GOP Challenger Apparently Topples Gay Marriage Politician. In it, www.southfloridagaynews.com reports that:

A Republican state senator who voted to legalize gay marriage in New York and shot back at conservative critics that they could "take this job and shove it" has apparently lost his primary. With all absentee votes counted from the Sept. 13 primary and barring a total recount order, Republican Kathleen Marchione had a 113-vote edge over Sen. Roy McDonald with just 50 votes that still could be contested, said Saratoga County elections official John Marcellus. On Tuesday, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday blamed Republican "extremists" for punishing the Republican senators who voted for his initiative to legalize gay marriage in New York in June 2011.

A judge will make the vote official in the 43rd Senate District. In the face of opposition to his vote last year, McDonald, a Vietnam combat veteran, publicly said that if critics wanted to fire him for his difficult vote of conscience, "they can take this job and shove it." Marchioneís campaign as well as the campaigns against the other Republican senators centered on the vote to greatly expand gay marriage in the nation. In 2007, she had led a successful, statewide revolt of county clerks against then-Gov. Eliot Spitzerís plan to issue driverís licenses to illegal immigrants. Two of the three other Republican senators who voted across party lines for gay marriage amid loud opposition in their conservative base have won. The fourth retired in the face of strong opposition over his vote.

Sounds like they're a bunch of fundies.
If only gay marriage weren't put to a vote, if people just followed the constitution, none of this idiocy would be happening.
Look over here at Canada. We do a better job when it comes to freedom than in "the land of the free."

This loss really will have no practical affect. The New York Assembly has had a Democratic majority for decades. Shelly Silver will not even allow a bill to repeal Marriage Equality to be discussed.

So this really has no practical effect as far as New York's Marriage Equality Law is concerned.

For MANY DECADES, the Democrats have maintained a solid majority in the Assembly, while during the SAME MANY DECADES, the Republicans have maintained a majority in the Senate.

Absolutely. I am quite dogged and repetitive in denouncing these "public votes"; they make no sense.

America is a Living breathing HYPOCRACY of itself and its own creed...its a LIE....Liberty & JUSTICE for ALL are JUST WORDS, EMPTY WORDS - that make this country sound better then it actually is,in Reality. Look at Our Justice system..there are 2 "unmentioned" sets of rules...one for the poor/regular folk..and One for the Rich and well connected.

It's sad that your country doesn't live up to it's motto and sayings.

Exactly. It boggles my mind that when battling these issues out in courts, they don't simply say "it's in the constitution, deal with it."

It's simply the fact that some people think gay people are icky, so they are ignoring the constitution an pretending it doesn't give them the rights they deserve.
