You lay claim that there is no God. Can you prove it? This country was founded on principles of Christianity. You should check out a new thing that was developed - a history book. Research before you spout off your nonsensical comments. Leave the discusssions to those of us who have advanced past the sixth grade.
Can you prove there is?

Of course not.
With so much of their lives spent devoted to believing, it's human to throw up moral indignation when faced with reality, and difficult to overcome base human intolerance in the face of those who practice outside their beliefs.

Wrong.
Marriage is a cultural institution not based on love or want to marry but based on the nuclear family: husband, wife and children.........
First, please provide a list of states that limit marriage to those who want to raise or are able to raise children. Please include those states states that require any childless couple to divorce.

Then, provide some some of proof that the majority of Americans who marry do not, in actuality, place love high on the list in their reasons for marrying.

Thanks.

It hasn't happened yet, Ms. Bore.
But it will.
Please provide some proof that straight people are being forced, or will be forced in the future to marry people of the same gender.

Thanks.

I never said that, Quest. You're making a strawman.

I was trying to explain the historic evolution of marriage in anthropological terms: why it exists? what needs it serves? its function.

The modern concept of marriage is more anomalous to its historical purpose. People nowadays tend to marry at a later age and hold off on reproduction. This is a recent development.

I never said that either.

Man you are dense.

What I said was church representatives that are recognized by the state to preform marriages will HAVE to preform same-sex marriages if they are legalized under the "equal protection" clause. If they refuse then their officiates licenses could be stripped.

IF you don't see that as a likely outcome of our litigious society in the wake of any same-sex marriage ratification (ie LBGT groups suing churches for refusing to marry them)then you don't know what you are advocating for and are, essentially, a useful idiot.

Keep building your strawmen, I have plenty of matches.

Lilith - you seriously have anger issues. Ranting and yelling usually produces the opposite result of what you want (at least that's the way it works in my house with a petulant child). Now - to rant "marriage or nothing" and call names - completely negates your argument. What you and some other female wish to do in the privacy of your home - go for it - just do not attempt to FORCE your beliefs on me (or others). The purpose of marriage was originally set up to ensure property transfer in a family, and to set up a "legal" transfer between generations. Now, I will be the FIRST person to come sign your petition for MARRIAGE when you and your female companion produce a child - without a male's help or contribution (from a sperm bank). Until then - you do not deserve the term MARRIAGE - civil union, common law committal, whatever else you come with - yes.

My wife and I have a great relation ship. Is that your problem? No one loves you? Didn't daddy give you any attention. That seems to be your basis.
I notice you have neither a reasonable nor rational argument. You seem to only name call. Is that the best you have? Go back to the gutter.

"Your a morazz?" What does that mean? Is it English, or idiocracy? I'm betting on the latter.

The Gallup polls says that 73 percent of people oppose homosexual marriages. That should be justification - the will of the people. Enough said.
I guess if you are posting from 1985. If not, your number is quite off. It's pretty easy to look up. Also, take a look at the gallup poll from Alabama in 1969 and see what the majority answer was concerning school integration or equal voting rights.

There is no need to disprove god's existence if it hasn't been proven in the first place. Would I need to dis-prove santa's existence? only if it had been proven by empirically tested methods. the more science shows us (i.e. the world isn't flat, there are other planets than ours, evolutionary biology, etc) the less folks like you will need to depend on primal myths

You mean like the LGBT tax payers who pay the same taxes as you but are denied the same rights? The LGBT taxpayers who can be fired for being gay in the state of VA? The taxpayers who can't have a state appointed attorney fighting for them after being a victim of a hate crime in the state of VA? Or the LGBT tax payers who help pay for our public schools but can't ensure their own parental rights in this state? just curious since you brought up taxes.

I'd like to hear the actual basis for that claim. Its just a definitional statement. So here's mine: marriage as an institution is for any two people who want to get married! Period!"
I'd like to know how anyone can justify JCS's as correct and mine as not.
In the event that you want to use the bible - sorry - we have this little thing called the separation between church and state.
American Heritage School dictionary, page546, mar riage..."the state of being husband and wife" marry...1. To take someone as a husband or wife. 2. To unite (a couple) as husband and wife. Can you understand it now?

First, I have no earthly idea whatsoever what makes an American Heritage Dictionary a holder of some absolute truths. That is a definition so all it does is replace one definitional statement with another. It provides no basis for the definition. The definitions of words are not natural or true or false. They just come from how they are used by people. That's part of what the actual dispute is about.

Second, even if you want to go with that, there is no "one man and one woman" thing in it anyway. Many gay couples will refer to one or the other as "husband" or "wife" regardless of gender. And please don't go back to the dictionary for a definition of "husband" and "wife." Once again, dictionary definitions are not handed down by god or the universe or anything else. They are written by people based on standard cultural uses. When the meanings in the culture change, the dictionaries eventually change too. New words get made. Old words go away. Lots of words change their meaning.

I'm happy for you that you found a lasting love union, it just doesn't fit the definition of "marriage"

Listen to yourself...no one but you mentioned "absolute truths" , just the accepted definition of marriage as per the dictionary of the english language. And since you brought God into it, I refer you to the bible (which you wished to avoid in your first post). You are incorrect.
