James Madison coined a phrase about tyranny of the majority. Sure the masses can vote to continue to deny equal rights to others. If we left it up to the majority to do the right thing giving justice to all we would be waiting a long time. It's the courts job to make sure the minority is protected from the tyranny of the majority.

But the other side should be somewhat pleased. After all I did quote a founding father.

Something is seriously wrong with our system when a case can be heard by one judge who has the authority to overrule something that is favored by the majority of the people.

In this case, the judge was openly gay,so there was no question as to what his decision would be. I guess I am old fashioned as I will always believe that marriage is between a man and a woman..

To All Whom Share their "opinion" time and time again, who claim to follow and live the Word of God, this is what the Bible has to say about your opinions and judgments. These are just a few, let me know if I should keep going.

The truth is that God is a God of perfect love AND of perfect justice, and according to the Bible the judgment of God is very real.

In 2 Timothy 4:1, the apostle Paul tells us that God will indeed judge us all....

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead

In 1 Peter 4:5, the apostle Peter also tells us that we will have to give an account of what we have done to God....

But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

Romans 14:10 tells us that we will all stand before the judgment seat of God one day....

You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat.

Hebrews 13:4 explains that God will judge all those who have sinned sexually....

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

In Revelation 11:18 we are told that God will judge and destroy those who destroy the earth....

The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great— and for destroying those who destroy the earth.

In Hebrews 9:27 we are instructed that we only get one life (no reincarnation) and after this life we will face the judgment of God....

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.

It amazes me how many people call themselves Christians/Catholics, etc, Ill use one particular church in Chino Hills, Calvary Chapel that spent countless dollars fighting Proposition 8 in 2008, handed out yard signs to all members, talking about it every Sunday, encouraging every member to take part, yet they must have missed the part of the Bible which talks about NOT mixing Church and State. . . . ohhh I get it, its okay. . . this time.

Yea!!!
Now I may marry my dog, sister, daughter, palm tree, etc.
The "equal treatment" argument is, of course, false.
All adults have the right to marry a consenting adult of the opposite sex who is sound of mind and not directly related.
This applies to all; therefore, there is no unequal treatment.
If the supremes rule otherwise, activism will be the only reason.
Quoting the Bible in favor of same-sex "marriage?"
As much hilarium as abomination.

would you bar a black judge from hearing a racial civil rights case? You know what his decision would be.

Gays are not welcome, why don't they get that through their heads? I'll never accept them, no matter what a court says. Sick, sick, sick!
not welcome where? They are targeted by every business because of their spending power, a vibrant gay community is the sign of a very prosperous community (SanFrancisco, NY, Chicago, Dallas, etc). What you accept in "your mind" doesn't represent the world you live in, sorry.

I want my rights too. I don't care what others think. I want my marriage okayed. I want to marry my pet goat and my 12 year old niece. My rights are all that matter and you can't trample them. Just because you don't agree does not matter. The tyranny of the majority can not over rule my rights.

Two people of the same sex cannot "be fruitful and multiply"
And all of you throwing the Bible around, remember this..we will be judged by what is in our hearts.
Folks who live the alternate lifestyle are not sick, they are human beings just like you and I.

So all it takes is one un-elected judge who will is fairly safe from removal, to make a personal decision and supersede the will of millions of voters? And you wonder why this state continues to spiral into a sewage hole? "Hetero-phobia" gains another notch thanks to liberal-progressives.

Actually, if that third statement were true, then there'd be no legal problem with marriages of convenience just to get a green card. After all, both parties are consenting adults of sound mind, not directly related and so far, all are of opposite sex partners. Why then does the government check to see if it's a "real" marriage?
You hit the nail on the head though about one thing. Marraige will never be between human and non-human. The non-human can't consent, therefore no marriage.

Once again, someone who doesn't get the issue of consent. A child under 18 (in most states, unless their parent or legal guardian oks it.) can't consent, nor can a hon-human, such as a dog, goat, whatever. Try to really understand what you read, not just open mouth before brain is engaged.

He didn't make a personal decision. He made a sound legal decision based on the facts and evidence given to him during the trial. If the Pro Prop 8 people had a strong case, they should have presented it. Or are you really trying to say that a straight judge would have decided the case fairly but a gay one couldn't? There is bias in every case ever heard. Most judges decide on the legal issues and merits of the case, not their bias. Nice try, but still a fail.

The Bible says, "Gen 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

It also says, "Romans 1:22-28 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

While homosexuality is one sin among many any of us can commit and we are ALL sinners, it is, as the Bilble explains NOT HIS will for His children.

The judge cited "Equality" to justify overturning Prop 8. However marriage between a man and a woman and same sex union are NOT equal. The same equality argument can also be used to legalize polygamy. Will the supporters of same sex marriage now advocate for the legalization of polygamy (which the Bible has supported in the past ie. Abraham, Israel, Ishmael)?
