Bill O'Reilly's recent change of heart on same-sex marriage has 'upset' satirist Stephen Colbert, and really upset the American Family Association.

The American Family Association does not issue marriage licenses. Neither do Churches; Synagogues; nor Mosques
.
Even a preacher's marriage license must be issued by a clerk at the county courthouse or city hall
.
Religion has nothing to do with civil marriage

Bill O'Reilly must be feeling his ratings slip - I mean before he made his outrageous remarks. He obviously wanted to stir up some controversy, get some attention. Either that or he is getting senile. Either way, no matter how he really feels about the issue, adopting the same combative and insulting language as the left (Bible thumpers) is sure to end badly for him. He forgot who his fans are . . . were.

That's what I just finished doing, dear. You should put down your wine bottle long enough to be sure you're writing to the right person.

According to Rush, there were no Bible thumpers in O'Reilly's audience. Are you calling Rush a liar?

I've been watching Bill O'Reilly's show for years, and this is NOT a "change of heart" because he's been saying the exact same thing for teh past few years.

Unlikely. He came out in support of Ellen Degeneris when she was hired as a spokesperson for a department store.(Was it Macy's?) Of course, Ellen was gracious enough to thank O'Reilly publicly for his support, but that's only because she's a class act.

Maybe you're cranky because he's consistent, doesn't pander, and has the courage to take an unpopular position to some of his fans.

More likely, in the long run this will have zero effect on his ratings or his popularity, just as you have zero effect on, well, anything.

I had also recalled that O'Reilly generally took a libertarian view of gays and same-sex marriage. I was surprised that everyone else thought his support of same-sex marriage is novel.

That said, I don't follow him.(I can't stand shows with four people in a room yelling at each other.) Others have pointed to some anti-marriage equality statements of O'Reilly's, but I don't know the context.

Some people don't blindly follow one extreme or another. Makes simlistic pigeon holing a bit more difficult.

That said, I don't follow him either and agree with you about people just yelling at and over each other. Makes the fine art of listening all the more difficult.
