This is such an informative article. I am soooo glad that someone is watching our fr the citizens in his area. I certainly hope this dam at Witesville is not allowed to be built as high as the Hoover Dam. Massey keeping two sets of books on the UBB mine gives me absolutley no confidence that they are telling the truth about this dam. I pray that this dam never fails. If this dam cannot get 100 percent safetly inspection, then it should not be allowed to exist and certainly, not allowed to be built bigger. How can the OSM be allowed to deem this safe without another agency responsible to verify that it is safe. Just like the mine owner can say a mine is safe but federal and state inspectors must regularly make sure it is safe. There are so many residents who live from Whitesville to Sherman High who would not stand a chance of survival if this dam were to break. I also don't understand how this dam can be right in our area and no one, including myself, not know of a warning system if the dam should fail. And please don't comment and say to "move away if you don't like it." I have been here a lot longer than Massey has been here and I intend to stay. I don't have any problem with coal mining and Alfa. Just give the local citizens the security of knowing they are safe. They deserve this.
