Nah it is so they can hire more people to sit and watch them pull the trucks outside. wash the trucks 3 or 4 days a week. Roll out their uniforms so you can see them hanging up.
All They ever do is was h the trucks.
DO these guys get paid to wash trucks this many times and hang out there...

Apparently they have filled the town counsel with a load of $#@$ in order to have that many paid members on staff. Also, since when is it safe, or smart, to have a husband and wife running a dept? You would have thought the town would've learned something about a "family run business" from Saltville Rescue Squad!!

Actually I do volunteer indeed. Do you? The thread is directed at the department, which is 95% volunteer. The grant doesn't give the chief a penny. My point is simple. Don't like the FD guys? Volunteer, take the training, run the calls. Don't just hide and gripe. Dear.

its true the grant doesn't give the chief a penny but also it doesn't take away from his budget either, doesn't he get paid from his budget? if hes not losing money from his budget then he can afford to give himself a raise or keep himself in a paid status....in my opinion Chilhowie is way too small to have a paid fire chief....

They use to have all kinds of things in the newspaper. Pictures of all their jobs plus great writups but it all stopped around a year ago for some reason. Up until then, I agree with you that the public was able to see every week what they were doing and what the money was being spent on. Maybe, for some reason, they don't want the public exposure any more. Whatever the reason, they and mostly everything they do is now out of sight, out of mind.

i thought that the response time from the rescue squad and the police dept to help the lady who was hit by a car was a shame, people sat there in traffic around 10 minutes until the police and squad got there. it didnt even seem like they were in a hurry at all, not even running their sirens..and before someone from the squad gets on here and says they have to come from their homes and stop what they're doing to answer calls, i do understand that but pretty much at any given time you can ride by there and there is someone at the fire dept.. and as far as the police goes,,,they can speed through town, pass cars in no passing zones and wreckless drive on parking lots but they can get in a hurry when some one needs assistance..thats pathetic!!!

I have also noticed that. It use to be that every issue of the paper had photographs and a big story on each weeks responses an all kinds of pictures and stuff on their training. Then all of a sudden they stopped all contact with the public and media. Maybe they are covering something up.
