CHARLESTON, W.Va.-- Three West Virginia fire departments have been granted federal funding to purchase safety equipment and strengthen professional training and wellness programs.

Ellenboro Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $78,470, Harts Volunteer Fire Department,$47,443 and Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department,$47,272, according to a media release from Sen. Jay Rockefeller.

Rockefeller, Sen. Joe Manchin and Rep. Nick Rahall made the announcement Sunday. The funding comes from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

You all don't know that the levy can hurt alot of people in Greenbrier County,It would make it really hard on people on a fixed income,You all don't care about anyone that has to think about there medication or food or be able to keep there house and land.I grew up in Greenbrier County and I thought that people cared about other people but I guess over the years people change.

No matter what happens in this elections 99% of the firefighters will have any ill will toward anyone. Yes we would like to have better equipment with which to help you with there is no doubt about that but we will still come just as we always do. Question for everyone though. If the levy does not pass would you be more open to fundraisers that local departments would do? Ex. Raffle tickets and things like that. I know that nobody wants new taxes but the departments are in need of more funding. Just curious to know the thoughts of everyone. Again please dont judge everyone by one person.

It has been in some departments throughout the county. But with everything being volunteer it is hard to get anyone to be able to pull it. Most of the volunteers around work 40 hour jobs on top of being a firefighter and we cannot blame them for putting their jobs first. The biggest problem with little things like this is that we may work all year and only be able to buy 1 new set of bunker gear. The bunker gear runs about 3,000 for a set and its hard to raise that amount. Much less for 20 people in the dept. This is why we have tried to get the levy passed. The state money is drying up fast and we need different places to find money. If the levy doesnt pass something will have to happen to keep little departments open. I just dont know what that is honestly.

gbcfire:
Vol firfighter will have ill will toward taxpayers!!!
Wait until the levy is voted on before you start planning to get more money from people!
Take it as a compliment that I respond to you-you seem reasonable!
Some long term fixes include:
Applying for Grants.
Elect people who do not see government as the answer to everything.
Being transparent to your community (publish regular reports), answer why WSS Equipment spends so much time parked at a local eatery.
Survey your community needs (More dry hydrants versus more Tanker trucks-Park equipment in places away from VFD for better access).
More to follow if your interested.

CORRECTION: The funding comes from TAXPAYERS!

( old man )you are right again i said before there is money out there but they have to ask for it. and it is not going to just be hand to them with out asking for it!!!!! the tax payers have all ready paid the tax our fire fire fitters also need to manage the money not take 2 or 3 trucks to the parade's and let them sit there and run all day one trying to out do the other for the trophy they will get. stop and think about it.how much the fuel cost let alone the ware ant tear on the motor and other parts!!!!
