Who is funding all those vote yes signs out there? Think all the people opposed to this new tax needs signs saying vote no! Fire departments along with BOE needs to trim the wasteful spending and they wouldnt be holding this special (robbery) disguised as an election!

The fire departments themselves funded the signs. They wrote a check from each department to cover the signs. The fire depts need the election to pass or in 10 years there could very well not be a fire dept in your area. The cost of operating a volunteer dept is going way up and the money from just the state doesnt cover it. If this was your life on the line would you not want the person helping you to have the equipment to save your life? They volunteer their time to save people its not like they are getting paid to do it.

The estimated cost will be on average $48.00 per year per home. This is based on a home with a fair market sale value of $100,000. It will all depend on how much value the home has. Some average examples are as follows (the value of each example represents the fair sale cost if the home would be on the market):
$75,000 =$36 $100,000 =$48 $125,000 =$60 $150,000 =$72 $250,000 =$120
This is what the fire departments have been told that would be charged. www.gcfera.org this web site should tell you anything that you would like to know. If you have any questions that we can answer all fire depts will do their very best to answer them. We do not want the levy to be just a tax. We would like you to see what the money is going to be used for. The guidelines will be very strict as to what can be purchased with the money and what cannot.

I live in Beckley and the levy passed. It is very bad for Beckley. Not only will you be taxed on your home but you will be taxed on ALL personal property such as cars, boats, trailers, Atv, motorcycles, etc. basically anything you have a deed or a title for you will be charged a fire levy tax! I doubt your local VFD will be coming to the lake to help of your boat is on fire. It's just more money for the VOL's to steal.
They also then make their own rules. They will hire a fire Cordnator. They post job in the paper and tell you it pays 24k a year with no county car provided no cell provided. Next thing you hear the job had been filled. The guy was hired from a paid department and now makes $45k per yr has a county paid car and cell and uses both as they are his personal items.

Also they know more people come out when its election time. More no votes. Fire department wait till after and it's all fire department members going to vote yes. Better spread the word fast! It's all a lie and a way to let those people steal more money!!

tell me why it is right to charge a person who has a 250000 dollar home than a person who has a 10000 dollar home. that is communist and that is why our government sent our veterans over seas fighting for and taxes is why the usa split from England ! gbcfire maybe some of you should go over there and then you just might under stand .

The estimate for taxes is never correct. It always ends mup being more. Its also stuped to pay someone $30000 and another $70000 to rent an office and other expenses to distribute 15 checks. Why didn't the county commission give the money to the Fire Depts instead of giving money to a swimming pool that the public can't use. Lets put a stop to dirty politics and let the people take back our county.

ok i know people and have relatives that are on fixed incomes that have trouble buying their medications and pay their basic utility bills , and putting grocerys on there tables.thanks to obama and his stupid obama care and tax cuts for the rich and voting theirselves pay raises that we pay for so now you want to increase personal property taxes so in the HELL is going to take care of the ones having trouble paying everything NOW??????????
The fire levy for Greenbrier County has nothing to do with President Obama. His Obamacare plan is designed to help the elderly and low income get the medical care and medicine they need. They wouldn't other wise have it. You need to do some research on Obama and democrats in general. He is not proposing tax cuts for the rich. Just the opposite. They are trying to raise taxes for the extremely rich to help out the economy and all the middle class people in the country.

I do not agree with this fire levy either. I hope everyone gets educated on it and goes out to vote. To many taxes already and there has to be an agenda other than helping out the local fire departments. Just like with the school bond everyone buys into the nonsense and it passes but then nothing is done fairly through out the county. We are already being taxed to death. Enough is enough!
