If you will look at my past post's, I have complained about the School bond Levy and how I didn't support a special election. To be honest, if this fire levy had been introduced before this School bond levy was, it would have passed with flying color's. But now that the voter's have caught on to their tactic's they don't appreciate it and justifiable so. Second of all you ask what my solution is. How about knowone making under $20,000.00 with a household of 4 or more pay any dues. I just want to make sure the very families we're supposed to be protecting, we're not hurting in other way's. How about forming a commitee to investigate way's of additional funding for VFD's.
I couldn't agree more when it comes to the school levy, but you have to remember, this is a different group, not the BOE. Everything regarding the levy is online to read about. And I also agree with you in regards to the families we serve that struggle to make ends meat but the VFDs of the county are in the same shape minus Lewisburg. Really there is no good answer to the problem. Ultimately in the end, any help the VFDs would get would come from the taxpayers and if it is not this tax, they will tax us for something else. I do not support new taxes either, but at least this is one tax that you know will benefit someone, somewhere. And the tax is not any higher than the dues that you would pay, it just puts everybody on the same playing field. You may always pay your dues to your local FD, but your neighbor may never pay and the FD saves there home for free. Its a service that nobody ever wants to have to use, but it is needed. And also if the local FD can save the family that is struggling home, isn't that worth the $50?

lame you have not read the break down !!$75000,00 homes would pay $36.00 $1000000.00 homes would pay $48.00 $200000.00 homes would pay $72.00 adds it keeps going up !!!! my question is why are they putting these fees on people that worked all there lives to have what they got? it does not take any more to put a fire out because of what it is worth do you get what i am talking about?????????? granted a $10000.00 home may take longer so my point is come with a realistic amount ! get your head back in the right place.

Lame, Honestly I don't have an answer where everyone's going to be happy. You have valid points as does "your kidding".I was a vol. firefighter for years and know the struggles and hardships the department's faced on a day to day basis. But now it seems they are going from rag's to riches. All I want to do is look out for the little guy who can't afford this tax. For the kid's who don't have alot and can't afford to lose much more.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Oh, and it said the Fire Commisioners office should not take more than 5% of the overall levy money to run their office?? Hello, what is 5% of 1.8 million dollars? Also it stated the money can not be used for saleries? This New fire commisioner is going to have a salery of 75-100 thousand dollars a year. Bend over Greenbrier County citizens and get ready to take it up the "TAIL PIPE"!!!!

You got that right!!! It's just to line the pocket's of the fat cat's in Lewisburg and create a $100,000.00 job for one of their own! Don't know why people don't have sense enough to see it?? Sheep I tell you, they will follow anyone and don't have sense enough to think for themselves or they would figure it out. Wait until businesses are forced out of business because they can't afford the fire levy..........

I agree with you Bryant on the taxing of the people who don't have much, I don't dispute that at all, and there is no answer that will please everybody. There have been valid points posted from both sides in this discussion, and also some people that just refuse to look at facts. I don't see it going from rags to riches though honestly, a new apparatus is at least $250,000, unequipped. The workers comp. premiums have almost quadrupled for many departments. Training requirements are constantly going up. All the costs in running a FD are going up, but the revenue is staying the same if not going down. Like you said, there is no answer that makes everybody in Greenbrier County happy, but without this levy, it is going to make things worse.

I would love to know where you got your numbers for the salary, you must have an inside connection. And I didn't realize that one person ran an entire office. I don't know anybody in the county government that makes the kind of money that you just quoted, why would this job be any different?

(lame )then let it get worse . if they can not come up with a realist amount of money LIKE $36.00 a year per property owner and a $45.00 or $50.00 for a business then it ( SHOULD FAIL )IF they got this amount look what it would take in ! then split that money the same between 15 fire departments . not one fire department get one amount and the rest get another amount . what is so hard about that!!!!!

the amount of money they are putting out to the fire departments adds up to $1800001.00 if you devide that bu 15 fire departments you would get $120000.06 per department and that is a pile of money if this passes .....

That's right, and 5% of that to run the Fire commision for a year is over $200,000.00. Do the Math, I am sure the fire commisioners salery isn't going to be 30, 40 or even 50 thousand a year, has anyone asked what his salery will be? Ask, find out for yourself.........
